L'esclavage existe toujours en 2007 et ce, pas plus loin qu'à Laval. La GRC a en effet procédé à l'arrestation d'un couple lavallois pour avoir exploité une Éthiopienne de 29 ans qu'ils faisaient travailler 24 heures sur 24, sept jours semaine et qui n'avait pas le droit de téléphoner ou de sortir de la résidence à moins d'être accompagnée par l'un de deux accusés.
