Questions:
In this video PvD releases the vinyl randomly in the middle of a phrase... but somehow it is still all phrased up with the other song....
how did he do this? is it cuz of the program?
also, i noticed when he was eqing... he twisted both mids for awhile. what is the point of this?
thanks |

Whoa. That looks like a really old clip.
I didn't see the vinyl "phrasing" part you mentioned. I think he kinda goes crazy on the eqs sometimes. |

Some tracks have uneven numbers of bars between phrases from time to time (might be an extra bar thrown in somewhere etc), so if you know when you have to drop it so that it lines up at the right point, you might have to drop it at an odd point.
Or sometimes it's not incredibly easy to cue up the first beat for example, so you might cue up the 2nd or 3rd beat of the phrase (or any other random beat you're comfortable with), which would mean dropping it at a different time as well. I do that from time to time, it can pay to be flexible and not just feel you have to do everything as you've always been 'taught' |

I cue the 5th beat up on every mix. I don't like cueing on the 1st beat due to the needle slipping etc, i find it happens a lot less on the 5th. It looks kinda weird for other DJ's watching me mix, but the phrasing all lines up perfectly so it doesn't matter in the end. |
