The leader of a small Georgian opposition group was fatally shot in the Caucasus Mountain nation's capital on Thursday, police said.
Gela Meladze, secretary general the political organization Mdzleveli, was killed by pistol shots fired at close range, Interior Ministry spokesman Zurab Gvenetadze. He said there was no immediate evidence that the killing was politically motivated.
Mdzleveli — whose name derives from the Georgian word for "overcome" — is in opposition to President Mikhail Saakashvili and his government. It has no seats in parliament, which is dominated by Saakashvili supporters — or regional legislatures.
Saakashvili was elected president following the 2003 street protests known as the Rose Revolution that prompted his predecessor, Eduard Shevardnadze, to resign. Critics say he is power-hungry and intolerant of dissent. The Associated Press

Right, the US says Georgia is one of the best emerging Democracy in that region, right after Ukraine.
What pisses me off the most is that ALL major WESTERN news medias are keeping quiet about that, not a damn one word. |

Well, to be fair, Fox News is too busy keeping us up to date on a missing housewife in Illinois. |

If anybody shot down an opposition leader in Russia, the US would be the first to scream that Russia is on a way back to totalitarism. |

can you blame us? all we have is their track record to go by.
i don't mean to bash Russia. they have a whole myriad of problems that, frankly, no other country has do deal with. especially on a scale like theirs.
i respect Russia. i respect Russians. even the ones on this board. |
