I honestly think cute is a more mature form of pretty than hot is. Hot is based solely off of physical looks -- cute is based off of judgments about personality, etc. as well as looks. So cute is the whole package - aka someone you would want to be in a relationship rather with rather than maintain as merely a physical lust thing. |

Neither words carry a lot of weight and mean nothing or hide a diametric meaning which you're not going to say out of being polite.
"Nice" just means a brainless, throw away comment you quickly come up with just to say something. Unless you're being a bitch and you can come up with "That's a nice dress" which really means "I wouldn't be seen dead wearing it" or "Pity you have a figure like a sack of potatoes" but you can dampen the vitriol by adding an enthusiastic inflection and a 'nice' smile. ;)
"Cute" is much the same, though it can be used to describe animals, children, inanimate objects and attire without being derogatory, using it on people who could be considered old enough to be adults just means you're being condescending and patronising about either their appearance or behaviour.
Tall people are not 'cute', puppy dogs, kittens and small convertible cars are cute, if one is going to describe a tall person as being appealing to yourself personally, use a word that actually goes to some effort to describe them. Attractive, stunning, willowy, gorgeous, hot or basically anything else which might have you at least in with a chance of rising above the gormless masses which use 'cute' on such a regular basis may actually get you some attention :) |
