Still, the music produced in this island you live is often quite better than what comes from the other side of the Atlantic.

But, there are just a few tunes I like, such as "Dry your eyes" (The Streets), "Fit but you know it" (The Streets), "Pull Out the People" (M.I.A.) and "Love me or hate me" (Lady Sovereign).

I'll begin by saying I'm really not familiar with a ton of British hip hop - just people like Dizzie Rascal, Lady Sov, The Streets, and a few others who've had a bit of success on this side of the pond.

I've got to say, based on those three - I'm really left wondering. Specifically, I just don't understand the popularity of The Streets and Dizzie Rascal, their production is just ok (though sometimes profoundly irritating), and I really, really can't stand the way either of them deliver their lyrics.

So - anyone have any opposing opinions/better UK hip hoppers to point me to? Thoughts on hip hop coming out of the UK?

None of those are british hip hop. Dizzee Rascal and Sov came from the grime scene, and The Streets is, well, The Streets.

If you want good british hip hop, first off try Rodney P & Skitz's show on 1xtra. They play US stuff as well, but they always rep for the UK and what's going on hiphop-wise. Rodney P himself was formerly a member of the legendary oldschool UK hiphop group London Posse, while Skitz is a veteran DJ/producer in the game. Check Countryman to hear what he sounds like.

Otherwise, there's Terra Firma, and their two most prominent members Kyza and Klashnekoff. They've both fallen off a bit recently, but their back cat has enough goodies in it, like this one:

Finally, while not strictly a hiphop MC, check Durrty Goodz, particularly "Switching Songs", where he jumps on about a dozen different beats (even a jungle tune) in one go.

Cool, will check those out

I think the reason I make the mistake in calling people like Rascal and the Streets "hip hop" and not grime, is that over here in the states that's how it's marketed to us - most folks over here wouldn't have a ing clue what I meant if I said "dubstep" or "grime," but as soon as I say "You know that British guy Jay Z tried to make all popular in the states?" kids will instantly think of Dizzie Rascal - and the Streets was definitely marketed as "the next big thing in hip hop" over here a few years back.

I'm not an expert on british hiphop but I like something about it. Maybe the pronounciation...
