Wow, a 2-page article on a notebook computer, and not one mention of actual specs. I can see this is going to be a powerhouse.

That was my first thought.
Not even a mention of projected price.

Id like to know more about the intel wireless and constant connectivity stuff, sounds interesting

Love the keyboard on the black one
lol internet
The screen looks 14+ inches. still kinda big to lug around (width wise) in my opinion.

Either way, it's going to be expensive just because it's thin.

very sleek, but..

you are probably 100% correct with that comment.

Ultraportables suck ass. Wimpy performance, no battery life, and run hot enough to burn your lap if you actually leave it there.

If we're going to make analogies to sex (which I think is pretty lame, and this is coming from someone in IT), then these ultraportables are like the 70-pound anorexic stick figures that suck in bed because (a) they're too weak to actually move, and (b) you're always afraid you might break their neck.

im in IT as well.. but macbooks (not the pro version) are 13 inch, good battery life/performance (for a laptop.) it does probably run hot, but i really dont put laptops on my lap to begin with.

it was a premium compared to other laptops i guess though.

good!

Men who regularly balance their laptop computers on their laps when working may be jeopardizing their ability to have children, according to a new study from fertility researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

The potential risk comes from the heat generated by the laptop computer and the close position of one's thighs when balancing the computer on one's lap, the researchers found. This heat is transferred to the scrotum, where the temperature can rise several degrees, putting users within the danger zone for testicular dysfunction.

heh i wasn't trying to troll or anything. just saying though, some ultraportables are actually pretty good, but you pay a big price markup for it. the cheap ones are normally horrible. ie. avertec 1.4ghz celeron. 12inch screen tho

Hah, my balls get hotter than that just from standing out in the sun on days like this. I don't use laptops with any regularity though, so I guess I'm on the safe side regardless of the alarmism.

You have to keep in mind with these "studies" that they probably didn't get thousands of test subjects to heat up their testicles for several years and then test their fertility afterwards. They just looked at different groups of people and compiled some statistics based on existing information; it's very hard to draw any conclusions from a study like that because there are no controls whatsoever. In the link, Wald even admits that it's inconclusive so far and that more research is needed to prove anything.

Besides... as if all these dudes talking about their "sexy" laptops will be trying to conceive, hahah.
smuncky
desktop ftw

I think initial research like that is good enough to be a little more cautious

my new VAIO is barely warm, but my old HP went nuts the last year I used it, the heat from it cracked the surface of my desk

At the same time, if your laptop runs hot, it's probably uncomfortable to put on your lap, so it won't be spending a lot of time there.
