I'm buying a new mixer in the next few weeks and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. My price range is up to about $300. And if anyone has one that they are willing to sell let me know about it..

Well, I'd have to disagree with infinity when it comes to Citronic mixers ... I find them to be really bad ... very weak headphone out, and I don't like the general feel of it ... and do NOT buy Gemini mixers ... really bad quality.

But a Vestax PMC 170 would be a great choice ($299) , or you can take a look at the Stanton RM-Three ($279) which is exact replica of the PMC 170 ... also, look for the Vestax PMC 17 (the older brother of PMC 170) - they go for really cheap.

I got the Vestax PMC 170 mixer and i really recommend u purchasing that mixer...its solid and fantastic and i love it. the neatest thing about it is the kill switches [which most of the top brand mixers do not have i.e pioneer]...you can do extra stuff and add to yer mixes with the kill switches. hehe overall its a great buy and worth every dime!!

I am searching as well... thanx 4 the info guyz!

I agree with Skywarp... don't buy Citronic, they are really over priced trash heaps.., headphone output is very crappy.. and if ya turn it up! it gets very distorted.. The gemini's.. ugg.. they are ok if you are just starting out and just want something to crossfade with.. but otherwise they are just total crap for quality..., I personally don't like vestax mixer's purely because they are a little expensive and it never sounds right when I crossfade between tracks.. Generally a good quality mixer.. I just don't like them personally.., Stanton Mixers and Numark Mixers.. though they are not as high end as the Vestax Mixers.. for $300, I'd grab the highest end numark or stanton mixer for sure.. something with optical faders.. But then again.. this is just me..

Optical faders are meant to be used for scratching, not for mixing since they have an extremely steep response curve (ie. you need to move the fader only a few millimeters to bring the channel in at full volume). So if you want to mix, stay away from optical. Most stanton mixers are scratch mixers too (same reason - very steep crossfader curve response) so you might want to try and mess around with the mixer for a little before you buy it - just to see if it suits your needs.

for 300 bucks i don't think u'd get very 'high end' mixers.. of any brand..
u can't get any decent stanton mixer for 300 bucks anyway..
even the SK2 costs 279pounds.. = about 400bucks..
numark, fair enough.. dm2000 series is alrite..

optical faders?? i don't think many trance djs will have much viable use of that..
ya know.. y not just recommend Rane mixers eh? or even pioneer eh?

price has to be matched with product

Yeah, when 300 is all you can spend, quality isnt going to be a big concern. I have a urei and a rane, both are rotary and both are the best mixers i have ever used. Never a problem, thats why i have a hard time with 300 for a mixer. I would hold on and save up a little more and go for a higher end product for around 500. Its like buying tables other than technics :D

hmm.. ok.. I thought optical faders were good for resisting wear and tear.. but if they are crappy for trance DJ's.. thats cool..

Do you people actually know what you're talking about ??? You can get a very decent mixer for home use for UNDER $300 ... Or under $200 for the matter of fact. Ever heard of a Vestax PMC-17A ? The de-facto standard device for bedroom DJs, decent quality faders, all the features you need - including send-return loop for hooking up an effect unit. If you can't find it for that cheap then you're not looking hard enough.

My first mixer was a NUMARK, fairly cheap, lets face it, if your just learning to Dj or just planning on being a bedroom Dj my opinion is go NUMARK, your not running a club so you don't need a high end mixer, save your money and buy records.
