Well 3 days later I am finally recovering...
While I am living in Singapore for the next while, I have been trying to keep my eye on parties out here, especially big ones in remote places. I came upon the First annual LA LUNA party, with several local DJ's and Nick Warren headlining.
First Bintan is a very small island a couple kilometers from the equator, much like Bali. You take a ferry boat from south Singapore and arrive in paradise. This place was just something out of this world.
The Party
because it had rained for 1 hour like I had never seen before in my life the beaches were absolutley flooded. after the rain, temps of 30+ came along and turned the place into a heat bath, but that became the parties lustre. IT was just messy madness.
When I got to the party site it was surreal, huge stage, with its back facing the Straights of Singapore - the ocean as far as I was concerned....I could't wait for the sunset.
Two local female dj's came on, played some dirty minimal and hard tech house. Nice crisp sound. Type of sound you'd expect to hear from Hawtin and the likes. Shortly after the Green Day of Indonesia came out and the absolutley bang the place around,I started to get REALLY TIRED but these guys are clearly the cats ass out here cause the locals were going bananas. So it was fun to watch.
Its funny I got pretty smoked by the heat, so I ended up struggling back to my hotel room which was 3 mins walk away from the party, and the cloest room to the stage. I actually fell asleep. about 45 minutes later the loudest dirtiest nicest, hardest bassline shook my room, my furniture and my ears. I was out of my room in a matter of minutes; still pretty wasted.
I go there and everyone were just zombies, all moving together. Bit of a generalization I guess, but locals dance to house differently, they move much more openly...its a huge party atmosphere...they just go bananas. Nick Warren was on the mark...he's alot older than I recall, looks about 65 and smokes like he is activley seeking cancer. But f*ck can he bang it all together....I was surprised to see him train wreck once, pretty bad - like he almost did not recover from it.
He played it cool, turned up teh volume and dropped something bigger and better to recover.
He played for about 4 hours, and ended around 5 am, after that another DJ came on, Ive seen him in T.O, he was better there, he played till about 8am. I fell asleep on the beach around 7:30...woke up on the beach at 10...
Good Times.
The pics are in random order, but they are all beautiful...enjoy Bintan, Indonesia.
