LOL... this movie will be NOWHERE near as big as Harry Potter, nor will it touch LOTR. I predict less than half the box office revenue of either of them. Looks almost as lame as the chronicles of narnia ;)

If anyone has read the three books: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass, then you know these movies are going be amazing from a storyline point of view.

Those of you who haven't read the book(s), I encourage you to read it before the movie. It introduces some extremely unique concepts, and the series had me riveted in a way I haven't been with a story line for quite some time. The concept of daemons, Panser Bjorn and parallel universes--and how Philip Pullman describes them is just amazing. Tie that into the effects they can do these days with some seriously good casting, this one is going to be a winner.

The ending Pullman had in the trilogy was STUNNING. I hope they carry that through to the movies. It was incredibly tragic and incredibly perfect.

I was shocked to learn this book series was in the 'young adult' section after reading it--a little taken aback... i think it belongs strongly in hard core sci/fi fantasy sections. Let the youngsters go there to get their copy!!

I love those who judge a movie's worth on a trailer...lol... 'looks as lame as Chronicles of Narnia'.... do yourself the service of reading the first book, and tell me you're not hooked.

Can't wait--I'll be seeing it in imax, if they're offering it!

Read the books as a kid, so I'll see the movie purely out of a nostalgic curiosity. But bigger than LOTR? No.
