Here is the same review I posted on DCS.
The Production:
For the most part I feel as if the production level of this year’s festival was top notch. There was a minimal amount of technical problems from what I could gather. The stages for the most part were on time other then the main stage which was running behind almost all weekend. The sound at all the stages was an improvement over last year. I have heard some complaints about the sound in the Beatport stage but honestly I thought it was great.
I am with Tom T in that the artist in the tents should have been elevated in some way. They were almost always crowded and you could never see who was doing what unless you were right up front.
The tents need some sort of ventilation. While it wasn’t incredibly hot throughout the weekend it was at least 20 degrees hotter in the tents. Would it really kill anyone to rent 5 fans for each tent to help cool things down? I probably opted out on 5 different performances just because they were in the tents which were jammed packed and were to hot for my taste. Please next year just make the tents a little bigger, open up the sides of them when it is not raining and get a few fans. Other then that everything was pretty damn professional.
I like the fact that the stage was on the main floor. Why some people may gripe about how it took away a lot of bowl space it honestly made the performances a lot more personable.
The ticket situation sucked. Honestly there was like no combination of tickets you could by to break even when buying beer. It was just like the taste fest which drived me nuts. Plus no discount for buying more tickets? You could only by 10 at a time instead of buying just a few at a time which meant you had to go back and by 10 more tickets because you were one short of getting that tasty beverage.
The music:
Hands down my favorite performance of the weekend was Mathew Jonson. While I am sort of a fan boy it still was by favorite performance of the weekend. We waited around for what felt like 5 hours to finally get to see him and we were not disappointed. This was one of the only times I braved the desert like temperatures and sweaty bodies to check someone out in the front row of the tents and it was worth it. Only one other time has someone made question my level of sobriety and this one of them. Being completely sober and having to second guess that because of what someone is doing to your brain is amazing.
Other music highlights of the weekend:
Matthew Dear & Ryan Elliot Tag < wicked dancy funky minimal
Charles Webster < very niiiiiiice
Booka Shade < killer set, however just like all the sets I have downloaded from them
D. Diggler < very nice deep tunes to start off the weekend
Butane < wicked trippy tunes
HIA < sick as hell early afternoon ambient
Brain Sanhaji < liked him better then Christian Smith who played after him
Music Notables:
Guido Schnieder < was promised the world but was neither impressive of bad
Gui Boratto < expected a lot more but not bad
Christian Smith < mixing was not so hot however I think it might have been because of technical problems, overall decent
Misstress Barbara < Hoped for a minimal type set, got a banger, decent
Music Lowlights:
Mirko < Plane was delayed so he didn't make it
A Guy called Gerald < for that late of a timeslot on Monday afternoon I expected a lot more
Missing Steve Bug
Hardfloor < lots of hype but honestly it was like early 90s acid goa trance with bad sound quality
Sassmouth < sub-par mixing & seemed like a beatport top 10 minimal type of set
Missing the “need I say say more party” & Berreta parties because of people getting sick
Claude Van Stroke – sort of cheesy in nature and his mixing wasn’t all that great either.
Afterparties:
We opted out of pretty much all of them this year which was great move personally. Went to bed early and was actually able to really enjoy the day time activities. Friday night spinning at the opening party was a blast. Got home pretty early in order to get proper nights sleep. Saturday we were in bed by 11:00 which was mainly do to a very early and long day at the festival. Sunday night spinning at acquaviva was fun as well, thanks to all my peeps that rocked out downstairs with me. Stopped by a favorite local watering hole to catch some early morning minus shindig which was good. Tuesday morning had to work so no after parties that night.
It was also good meeting up with Phreek and meeting DJArecebo and a few other of you guys throught the weekend. Hope to see you guys again, holler! |

Couldn't agree with you more, I thought Fotias and the Paxahau crew made a mistake on putting A Guy Called Gerald on that late on Monday. But overall a a great weekend and a success.
