These days, I'm just jumping from one style to another. Here's another first from a genre that I really can't put a finger on. I made this some time ago, but I forgot to share it with you folks. It has the sloth of a trip hop beat without the lo-fi, the dark ambience of something else, and the bass experimentation of a downtempo generalization.

Some Oriental moods are present. At first I was going to call it "Triads in Bristole", but that didn't quite fit. At the end of the track, the mood that I was going for was a downtownish, midnight Hong-Kong-ish, creepy Shadow Warriors, Low-Tone, Feudal mysticism kind of monstrosity.

Thanks Akai... you seem to be usually counted on to comment on my tracks, I'm flattered. You should post more of your stuff around here... I remember there being one track with vocals in it.

trip hop is hard to make interesting. everything that's here is fantastic, but I think adding vocals or something would just help to keep things moving. also, the snare should be louder.
I dig that grainy sound in between kick and snare, very massive attack sounding. come to think of it, this sounds remarkably like Heat Miser by massive attack. very respectable track. |

I like the intro.
The piano sounds great.
Yes it is very "massive attack".
I also agree about the vocals. Find some one who can chant or something.
I think I heard an off key note somewhere near the end.
Maybe you should add one more element because something here is missing.
Hmm add a conga or some other percussion.
Can I have a download link for it?

Listening:
Very dark and crunchy. Piano and beats are cool. Overall mood is very mysterious.. kinda soundtrack-like.. cool track overall, defintely belongs on some kind of chillout album or CD...
Definitely something i would listen to, but as i said, in a mix or album of some sort. |

I really appreciate the feedback. I hope to have some more trip-hop-ish material in the future.
Actually, I did have a conga somewhere in there. But it probably sounded more like a wardrum by the time I was done with it.
I could add one more element or so to the mix, sure... I do believe though that some form of vocals would carry the track the extra mile. The problem is that I don't have a vocalist VST on me anywhere :crazy: and I can't sing nor do I have a good acoustic setup /w microphone. |

I have to agree with the above comments - it sounds like just the rhythm track for the rest of the piece. Some kind of new age vocal or drone and more layers of high percussion would make this sizzle
The oriental bell/triangle line is quality. I don't know if any of you have ever played the computer game 'Deus Ex' which came out a while ago, but this reminded me of the hong kong ambience in that game. |
