Ok i just got a new laptop and my old program i used to record with wont work very well with vista (skips rly bad during recording and i have reinstalled it more than once for those that suggest doing that :p) so i downloaded audacity and figured i would give it a shot. I have used it before so im not a total n00b with it but usually there is a pull down menu that lets u decide what input the program should record but on my comp that pull down menu is inactive. see pic below
so what should i do to record my sets? is there a way to fix this problem or will i need another program? i have cubase but someone told me its not good for recording sets, is that true?
Thanks for the help

| Get rid of Vista? Audacity probably isn't compatible with it. I don't know of any other good free programs to record with |

oh vista. sigh. the little OS that couldn't.
try adobe audition 2. dont know how well (or how bad for that matter) it will work with vista, i was happy with recording in audition 1.5 myself. |

Are you using a soundcard or onboard sound?
When I used to use the onboard sound, I could use that drop down menu but after I upgraded to a dedicated sound card with breakout box, that menu greyed out as well. |

| check the preferences menu to see if its detecting your audio interface's channels properly. |
