Car Speakers & MP3 Player

Getting my car back today ('02 Nissan Altima) and was going to start looking at getting 2 front speakers as well as a new mp3 player for my stereo.
My options were to go to either Circuit City or Best Buy. The Audio Planet store in my area has people, who im told, like to rip people off. So I scratched that place off my list.
Is there any recommended pair of speakers I can buy within the $3-500 range? I was told that JBL or Kicker car stereo speakers are really good for the mids and highs. The problem with my existing speakers are that the fronts lose clarity big time in the mids and highs once I get to a higher volume. The max volume is 36 and the loss of the mids and highs starts when I push 30-32. It's possible this happens to prevent the speaker from blowing out. My right one blew out at a not so high volume. Replaced, but I'd still like to get something with more of a crisp sound.
The change in my system is obviously for dance music reasons, so it would be nice to get some feedback from those who have a pretty good system in their car.
Also need a really good MP3 player that doesn't cost so much. I went to Best Buy almost 2 years ago to buy one, but I had to buy a stereo kit for my car and they didn't supply it. So I had to go elsewhere to buy one. Once I didn't find it, I kind of stopped the whole process altogether.
The total amount I have to spend right now is $700 for both the pair of speakers + MP3 player. I might just get one of the two if it's gonna be expensive for both in both places. |

you can probaby do really well with an alpine headunit and some 6" doors and a tweeter kit. i'm sure you can get it all done for under your budget. I'd say at max the 6" will run you like 150-200/pair. tweeters are cheap and a nice head unit could run like 200-300(at max)
i haven't done car audio in the longest time so dont quote me on the prices. you might want to factor in some things if you want to go full technical with it by having an amp to power the 6" and tweeters and a good bass setup.
overall i think a bestbuy setup + installation will net you a decent sound for the budget you have in mind. |

If you want it done really cheap....go to Shea stadium junk yard. Not sure of they sell new ones but they will install anything! So if you can buy it somewhere cheap then bring it there for install.
Also there is another spot on 164st & hillside (Jamaica, Queens) that does good work...fast and for good prices. It is the spot right on the corner. Forgot the name but you can't miss it.
Have fun driving your 2002 deathmobile I mean altima :p
(Sorry I had one and it was the worst car I have ever had and I still have much hatred for it eventhought I got rid of it over 2 years ago) The most accidents...repairs, breakdowns, and break failure which also caused more accidents and defective airbags. |

Yea, I already have a sub woofer in the back. So the bass is good enough. I'll try BB, thanks! :-) |

Sears eh? Well I'll go with Best Buy. That was the only place that I really paid much attention to for car audio. |

| Audio Planet isn't too bad. I got my Alpine deck from them. They only rip you off if you let them. From my experience, they cut people deals. I have Infinity Reference speakers which I ordered from Crutchfield and installed them myself. |

I suggest you check out Best Buy since they have much more speakers, head units and subs (The Rockfords are insane on the bass level)
The All new Pioneer and Alpines head units are very nice especially the new buy Alpine with which does everything except it doesn't take CD's but it cost around 399. If you were closer to the DC I would get you 60% off this stuff. Also looking into speakers checkout the all new Infinity or Alpine speakers that come out recently
Here the new Alpine

| Thanks for the replies, guys. I saw what I wanted, but I was in a hurry and didn't get the full specs. The alpine player I wanted is $199 and it has an ipod ready feature which was pretty cool. The speakers I saw were pioneers and it was $79+ tax for the pair. So I'm basically spending under $300 to do everything. I had to buy the car kit @ Circuit City, though. I'll be installing everything tomorrow :) |
