with the length of a bar\

for instance, 4 beats last 1.720 secs.
So how many beats last 60 secs?

4/1.720*60*1000 = 140,0233372

Something like that :p

Run it through some BPM counter software... such as "mixed in key". This will only work if it has some kind of regularity to it such as a drum beat.

If it is a melody, use an online beat counter to manually estimate the bpm when the sample is looping. http://www.b-boys.com/classic/beatcounter.html

Next method, is to cut one bar, and use the time stretching tool in your host to tell you the original bpm.

warp it in ableton and it will tell you :)

I just use this to the get the count (with the spacebar): http://www.b-boys.com/classic/beatcounter.html
