I work with computers a good part of the day and my wrists started hurting like a mofo to the point where I would just have to quit working the last hour or so of the day. I got a keyboard tray, one of those ergonomic split keyboards, and an ergonomic mouse and since then I've been fine. If you are using a laptop a lot, plug in a keyboard and real mouse. My hands still hurt if I use my laptop for a few hours.

my wrists bother me, before it got to the point where I needed surgery, I switched careers.

1. you can start by making sure your wrists and arms are properly positioned.

2. cut down the time you spend on the computer or repetitive things like gaming.

3. take non prescription anti-inflammatories, like advil. (but not so much that you damage your liver).

4. wrist splints at night.

5. soaking hands in hot/cold water.

But you should google and read up on it because its serious and it won't go away on its own.

Tell you what, one of my friend's brother patented a gel wristpad rest that moves with your hand to use while surfing etc 6 months ago. might do the trick. Not sure if there is an internet link.

The biggest thing for me with the wrists was the keyboard tray to get it at a good height and the ergonomic keyboard to get them at the correct angle.

I get it from time to time. Fortunately I'm ambidextrous so I just switch hands. Also, at work I use an ergonomic mouse where my hand spreads out over the top more comfortably and puts less strain on my wrist. The company I work for paid for this though - They can be pretty pricey.

they make keyboard trays that you can adjust the height, but they're good deal more expensive. its nice to have the height of the chairs arm rests be the same as the keyboard

I hereby nominate carpal tunnel syndrome for the hypochondriac's choice award. It's got to be one of the most common self-misdiagnoses out there.

while overall i would agree, im not the type to even claim im sick let alone something is wrong unless i REALLY think there is a problem. i HATE taking precription drugs when not prescribed and even when they are i try to get out of it if possible.

I'm not saying you don't have it but there are a lot of causes for wrist pain other than carpal tunnel.

Are you actually experiencing the other symptoms of carpal tunnel (numbness or tingling in the thumb and/or fingers, especially when going to sleep)? If so, then you might be a candidate for that 5% of people who think they have carpal tunnel that actually do.

Could be the real cause.... but I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

Be careful.
