I have a job, average 35 hours a week. Sometimes I think that's the problem but I can't quit, bills have eaten my ass up. Plus I pay for my own schooling.
For some reason I feel really motivated now and want to get on the right track, but that all means nothing if I'm going to spend the next semester only working. |

| just get a major in English. it's a stupid language and there are no wrong answers. Then you can get paid higher than the janitor at a high school for doing something of less service. |

I've hit rock ing bottom and the only thing I can blame is my lack of ambition. My GPA last semester was 1.25, withdrawing from 2 courses and getting a C and D in the other 2. I am now on dismissal because prior to this semester I was on academic probation which meant I needed to maintain a 2.0 GPA to continue schooling.
I'm 21 with nothing to show except a few credits in college that lead up to an undecided major. My friend's younger brothers and sisters have more to show than me and they've only been in college for two semesters. Or I have friends who are the same age and didnt start college until last semester and are already doing better than me. I've been at this for 2 years. I keep ing up. I don't know what's going to wake me up.
Anyone been here? |
Yup! I've been there, and I've seen worse. Don't worry, it isn't the end. I have a friend who recovered from a 0.24 average. No need to freak out while you're still young. If you're not mature enough to really cut the bull and buckle down then take a break for a while until you think you're really ready to focus. Take the time to maybe work and save up and get whatever it is you need to get out of your system, then get back on the horse.
Some people are gifted and disciplined enough to party all the time AND bust out all of the more important stuff. If you're not one of those people, as I sure as hell am not, then you're gonna have to make a bit of a lifestyle change. Clubs keep on pumpin' out music and DJ's keep on gettin' paid regardless of what happens to you, so it's pretty much your choice.
Time will pass no matter what you do with it, so try to do what you think will be worth while.
Finally, whenever you DO decide to go back, consider taking a Buddhism/Asian Philosophy course. It's something that could help you not measure your self worth by the achievments of others, or by such fickle things as college degrees. You can't let these kinds of things affect your self concept. We all have plans or notions of how we think things should be, but life happens. If college is really something you want to do then suck it up and get to it! :) |

dude, a 1.25? wtf, you have to try to get that low, regardless of the classes you're taking.
if you don't go to class and have no motivation or ambition, then just ing leave school and do something else with your life. instead of forking over money that is going to waste. |

The cost of failure without great expectations = nothing.
The cost of failure with great expectations = everything.
Fortunately/Unfortunately for me, I'm in a situation where expectations of me are high, and the cost of failure not only effects me, but many others as well. People who have been "placed" into this situation typically do better because they see it as a responsibility to others. Very few people are actually self-motivated beyond just avoiding the consequences.
So, you either fall into one of these 3 groups:
1. No expectations of yourself from yourself and or others leading you to feel sorry for yourself and whine complain about how tough is.
2. You are driven almost solely by high expectations of yourself derived from others and the pressure of failure and consequences are too high to not succeed.
3. You are entirely self-motivated with or without high expectations from others and see it as responsibility to yourself alone to do well in whatever it is you are doing. Consequence isn't a driving factor.
I've met a few people who fall entirely into the 3rd category, but I'd think that most people fall into 1 or 2 or have a mixture of both. Of course I think we have all experience all 3 at one time or another, but the mindset for most people begins early on, occasionally shifting around with age. Some earlier, some later. |
