any comments?

I'm going to have to make the prediction that it will be a 1-hit wonder for the Crytek (where do they get their funding anyways?)

CryEngine2 looks ing amazing, but I think they have only licensed their engine to a single 3rd party for 1 game, which is unlike Unreal's UE3, which is being licensed all across the board (which includes several game consoles). Being that UE3 costs 200k(last time i checked, it may have been 350k) to use, Epic is definitely making money back for what it took to develop the engine, regardless of their 1st party releases.

Unless the single player will be as mind blowing as Half-Life's 1 reform of the FPS, then i see it as nothing but a tech demo.
The multiplayer also looks like .

one hit wonder?

crytek made farcry which for the PC and orig Xbox is quite an amazing game. so crysis will also be their one hit wonder?

i dont think youre really giving them much credit. actually having real plants and trees that are interactive has never been done before- i think that adds loads to the MP experience. we've had these "ethereal" plants and bushes for too long now, will be good to see them actually have an impact on gameplay.

if far cry is anything to go by we are in for a real treat.

Interactive environments is something that halflife2 and redfaction back in the day brought in.

I'm just impressed with this game's graphics at the moment, but whether it'd be more than just eye candy is yet to be seen.

comletely different. red faction's environments were pretty contrived "oh you can destroy this part of the wall but not this other section" and HL2 had boxes you could use. hardly earth-shattering in its relationship to gameplay. crysis' capabilities seem much more impressive.
SuspicionVandit
I think HL2 was far beyond just pushing boxes. Ravenholm was the finest example of how physics was a big part in HL2's design (whether it be as a method of offense and defense, or in puzzle solving).
I really enjoyed Far Cry's design of using the foliage and AI to promote avoiding ridiculously hard battles in an FPS. Going from bush to bush listening for anything the enemy might whisper that would indicate he suspected something fishy was nothing short of an innovative and immersive reform of the FPS Run'n'Gun style.
Once the aliens came into play and could "smell" me, it seemed like another generic FPS where every couple of levels I'd say "wow, those graphics look amazing", yet the gameplay had gone down the ter.

I might enjoy the first few levels of Crysis of covering up my tracks as not to have an enemy gaurd notice footprints, blood stains on palm trees etc, but I have a feeling it's going to take another turn into "run, gun, look at the epic graphics, run, gun" once the aliens appear.
Now if there are 3-side wars between 30 Koreans, 30 aliens, and 30 US troops, each with air units, squad leadership commands, AI flanking techniques and artillery support, yeah, I'd say it'd be a damn good showing of next generation RAW POWA tech.

pkcRAISTLIN
yeah, i tend to agree. aliens/monsters in FPSs (as the uber soldiers at the end of games) tend to annoy me too. mainly coz i hate creatures that run at you and dont give you ammo when you kill them ;)

farcry was good enough to justify my $$ on crysis.
Sunsnail
I agree too actually. Those aliens are too damn frightening!
