This ain't a my genre is better then your genre thread...It's more of me looking at the differnces in the production style.
I listen to a lot of psy trance...I'd say its my favorite style of EDM. The somebody plays me this tech trance track, or at least i think it was tech trance, maybe it was hard trance, ANYWAY...It's by this guy/dudes called CloudChaser...DAMN where those bassdrums smashing...
So why does psytrance kicks have so much less power...Is it so that they can fit more crazy tweak FXs in? Or is it the fact that most psy trance is made with software thus producing a thinner sound in compared to other trance.
Thoughts? |

| The same reason minimal techno kicks are weak - it's the style. |

psy kicks are made in soundforge and wavelab usually tho
also, i thinks it's cause it has to fight for room with the rolley psy bass. |

Mostly, it's just the style. Psy kicks can't sit very low, generally, because of the bassline, so they don't have as much punch in the low end. As a result, most of their power is in the mids, which is why they sound all wooden and hollow.
Furthermore psy kicks tend to simply be sine waves with quickly descending frequencies. As a result, there isn't much happening as far as harmonics. Other trance kicks, on the other hand, have seen a lot of processing, and in the process have picked up a lot of harmonic warmth and richness, so they sound thicker and more punchy. |
