I know there's already a thread about this... Not sure how many people know though

Embassy I couldn't care less about, but Avalon and Axis are surely going to be missed by many.... RIP

Avalon-Boston was one of the better clubs I've been to

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino also released a statement in support of the Lansdowne Street overhaul. "This project will further place Boston in the forefront of the live music entertainment industry," Mayor Menino said. "I’m excited to see Lansdowne Street getting the facelift that it deserves. The addition of this new music venue will enliven the ever-popular entertainment district."

Sounds like Mr. Mayor is pretty out of touch. Since when is the reduction of two music venues into one something positive for the live music entertainment industry?

Im sure he was trying to cater to the non-cracky folks when he made that statement. ;)

haven't been to avalon in quite some time now but it was the start of it all for me. I used to do a guestlist for saturday nights and sometimes fridays. I used to sneak in when I was 17/18 years old. I loved going to the trancey nights at first (the gateway drug for me) and rocking out to PVD, Digweed, Sasha, etc. I miss those days with the sick laser they had and really cool themes (which have been gone for years now).

all the real new underground talent coming to boston has been going either to the phoenix landing in cambridge or to rise at times. Sometimes there have been special events such as the ones at revolution rock bar and goodlife downtown as well. Avalon has been booking the big cheeseball names only for awhile now. The underground scene left avalon 3 or 4 years ago. I miss when they'd have acts like Together and Cassius @ avalon and frequently had sasha and digweed. It's been a year since Digweed and over 2 years since sasha has last been around. The used to have much better bookings but boston only comes out for the AVB, Tiesto, PVD, Oakensuck crowds these days or for the uber lame TRIBALLLLLLLL FEEL MY DRUMSSSSS djs like Boris or Calderonie with cheese. Avalon used to unite everyone because there was always something for everyone with the lineups that they had. It's been pretty much the same for awhile now though. Noone can stay on top forever though. It's a sad day but I think it will actually do alot of good for the boston underground scene as its been undergoing alot of change. All the people who whine to see the big cheesy trance acts will still be able to see them in nyc or elsewhere but those bookings are not what makes a good music scene in a city especially like boston. Those guys will sell and attract big crowds no matter what. A scene is made by the underground acts that are pushing music forward and bringing forth new fans to the music and thus bringing forth new djs/new music/new ideas/new clubs.
