so i bought my laptop like 2 months ago
at the 12thish day it crashed...had to reinstall with the dvd software included in the box.
it was running great, no crashes at all; i have the bad or good habit of leave it turned on for 1 or 2 motnhs without restarting or shutting it down. With such thing said, couple days ago i decided to turn it off because i thought it was proper (needed a break after 2 months on)
but when i turned it on...a window appeared saying the code key i entered was not valid (i used the code key that is on the sticker under the laptop) and so i couldn't use it.
it limited me to only use the internet explorer to buy a new code key
$159 just for some numbers!! :whip:
but i refused to pay and so i figured it out and decided to reinstall it with the same dvd software i used before and same code key, it worked, but now it's asking me for a new code key again.
Do i have to buy a new code key everytime i reinstall it because thing crashed my computer???
any solutions?
and no, i will not pay for a code key  |

If the windows came with your laptop, that is your code, and you own it.
When it asks you to put in a new code, select an option to call and confirm your key instead. Going through the phone method, you will complete it in one of two ways:
1) You use the automated method, put your old code in, to confirm it. Once confirmed, it will give you a confirmation key, which you type into your laptop.
2) Option 1 fails, and you talk to somebody. You explain your situation, and they should help you from there. |

| What Orko already said. Just call the phone number listed and MS will fix the issue for you if your key isn't working. |

| Yeah, this happens with xp after a certain amount of reinstalls/major hardware changes too. |

i think he's talking about the dvd software not the xp cd key.
perhaps the dvd software that came with your laptop was only a trial version? Or maybe you are doing something with your dvd player/burner that you shouldn't be doing? i don't know..to me it sounds like a trial version of the dvd software. |
