mistress barbara played this last night, it was absurd
that groggy acid line just sort of snuck in and it was a good 3 minutes of genuine darkness |

if you dont like this track, you are retarded. if you bash anything about a track being very long, you are retarded. back in the beginning, in the old days, a lot of trance tracks were 12 min+ long (trance as in hypnotic). he's one of the few that's going back to the roots. ok thats all im done, you can resume listening to your f*aggot eric prydz and svd bull. |
I have no problem with long tracks...at all. But when they spend 10 minutes going NOWHERE, that just seems pointless to me. If it takes 20 minutes to develop, great. A lot of these remixes of his (see: cell phone's dead) have a couple minutes of development, then just a huge chunk of the same loops with a bit of wavering, but no real progression.

I suppose it's a safe bet to say you have never mixed tracks in and out of his tracks before. Try it and you might have a totally different outlook on his "24-hour-long tracks." :) |
I have, and it by no means applies to everything he makes. I suppose that if you wanted to really start playing with it, over a long period of time with samples or with multiple other tracks, then it could have its use. Aside from something like that, though, which probably wouldn't be done by a whole lot of people who don't have a set-up which would make the track lengths irrelevant, anyway, it's a safe bet to say that most people don't play 10-minute transitions.
...and then, of course, for listening to the track on its own, it does get boring. Nevertheless, I'll go hunt down this mix and see "how it can be used." ;) |

play both the mixes together;)
long tracks are amazing for the dj who does more than straight out mix outro/intro...these tracks aren't made for the listener at home, just like cellphone's dead the possibilities become endless for live mayhem even without ableton. |

| lord knows, i'm going to actually defend an overindulgant villalobos production, but you'r stupid if you just play it out like that, ricardo whips out these monstrously long productions and it's you the dj who are supposed to be creative, meaning you can work it like a peakstormer or any other position in your set or the best way possible consider it as just a large beattool and then like steve poindexter once said, work the motherfucker. |

it wouldn't be villalobos without the overindulgence
this track is really special at the right moment in a set where it's at its best
the problem is it's so novel that if it is played too much it's going to go out of fashion quickly |

also,
i think the point of the track is to not go anywhere but down
this track is pure descent into darkness
every sound has a sinking feeling the acid line and percs vaguely resemble the sound of some sort of decrepit timer ticking away
in efdemin's ra podcast you can really feel the downward movement in the set, it just sucks you under, and then you can hear how he has to build the set back out of the hole with the next trac
decrepit - perfect word for the track |
