Only advice: don't give up.
It might be years before you make something decent enough to play in public. |

reason is all you need pretty much, have fun, and experiment! |

Just be sure you enjoy yourself.
And don't be afraid to try something different, or that you otherwise wouldn't do. The key to learning is patience, with trial and error. |

I wasn't much help on the book for basics of music, but a book I did find helpful for Reason was "Reason 3 Power!" It's not a fun book so don't expect it to capture your attention with good storytelling or anything, but good to learn more about the mechanics of Reason. There was a DVD I had that was good but I lost it and can't remember the name... if I think of it I'll send it.
The book:

dont start...its evil. Once you get in you will never get out. It takes control of you and never lets go. Its evil i say. Sometimes I wish I never started. But I can't stop now. going on 6 years and I still suck. yay for producing. |
