I don't understand this. I never had a problem before, but now for some stupid reason, I can't play any games on my pc without the screen messing up.

For example, with NHL 2001 after executing the exe file, the screen goes black for a second like normal...but then when the openning screen shots of the game starts or the first menu appears, the picture starts rolling for the top of the screen to the bottom.

I figure its beause maybe my drivers are old, but even after an update its still messed.

I have a Viewsonic GT775 (about 2-3 years old)and an ATI Rage Fury video card.

Any help with this problem would be great.

Do u have directx 8.0 installed?
drizzt81
has this been happening recently only?

have you installed the newest drivers for your vid card?
Don
Ok here's some more info...I have directx 8, and video card has the lastest drivers

I also found out that the screen only rolls or scans from top to bottom when the monitor resolution is set at 640 X 480...which I think some games switch into in order to play them....

I checked all other resolutions and they all work fine. I have my monitor currently set at 1024 X 768.

Yeah i know that games usually switch to a certain resolution when loading, this might be the problem, but they have worked fine in the past. If the game has worked on your comp before, and you have all the latest stuff for it, and has been running ok with them it sounds like something has become currupt.

Windows has a nasty habbit of messing up after a while, a simple reinstal of windows might help. Unless it is win xp which i dont think you can instal over the top of xp. But if you have winME or 98 etc just reinstal windows and the problem maybe fixed. This wont effect your settings you have, and could sort the problem, will only take half and hour :)

That is sommit i would try if you have tried most other things :)

If it is something else that is currupt though it may need a reformat and reinstal of windows, but that is the last resort :)
