| Does anyone know of a good little computer repair shop in the city? My computer makes weird sounds at me and does stuff I didn’t ask it to do :whip: so I need it fixed ASAP. Also I don’t want to take it to Best Buy or Circuit City and lose it for a month. |

not insured under them so I don't have to go there. i'm against going to either place because when my friend took her computer to best buy / circuit city (forgot which) they had it for a month nd did absolutely nothing. |

i assume your running windows
if its a software problem i recommend avg anti virus + avg anti spyware (you need install and run both). If all else fails as a last resort you can backup everything and reformat and reinstall windows.
if its a hardware problem its often times smarter to spend money on new hardware than spending money to fix old hardware. This is because old computer parts lose their value so fast that spending money to find the problem and fix it can mean spedning $80 bucks on a part that is now worth only $30 or something.
The idea of opening a little computer shop crossed my mind before because i've never really seen a decent looking one. But as i wrote above its not always cost efficient to fix computer hardware and i wouldn't want to provide a service that isn't that great for customers.

I am running windows.
I have both anti virus and anti spyware programs and have ran them a ton since Monday (when the problem began) and nothing works. Not that I know much about computers but since this craziness only affects my browser and windows boxes I think this isa software issue opposed to a hardware issue. This is especially frustrating since I’ve only had this laptop for less than two years and already I have a major issue. Well, I guess I should reformat then reinstall everything…won’t that just be fun :rolleyes:
As for the cost of Best Buy / Circuit City I have no idea.

| hmm. what kinds of weird sounds? clicking? beeping? what kinds of random unprompted stuff does it do? finally, is it ever flat out unresponsive? there's a pretty inexpensive computer shop that builds custom computers on madison around 30th. i'm pretty sure they also do repairs. i'll try to get back to you w/more info. in the meantime have your computer get lots of rest and maybe some chicken soup. :( |

The weird noises could be anything...What do the noises sound like? Does your computer feel warmer that usual?, then it could be the fan dying the the pc is overheating, or hard drive going bad. What kind of PC is it?
For the actual performance I would say if you still have your copy of windows back up what you need and do a fresh install of windows. This should clean up anything you dont need fromt he hard drive that could have been causing the problem.
When all else fails you can call...

| if its a laptop take it to the little laptop shop on clinton st and houston. i hear theyre good, fast and relatively cheap. also , theres these russian guys on 35th bet. 7th and 8th. theyre a bit shady but get the work done and u can negotiate with em.. i had all my transferred to an external hdd since my laptop is broken i couldnt do it.. and they only charged me 60 bucks. the original price is 150. so i guess if ure good at pulling out deals go to the russians. otherwise, take it to little laptop shop :clown: |

well there is one long beep when i turn on the computer sometimes...borderline deafening and it only stops when i hit a button. um my internet browser (firefox and explorer) both minimizes and maximizes itself which is bothersome. the windows boxes do the same thing but i can use word and aim and other stuff fine. what pisses me off is that i have one last assignment due before getting my damn degree and it's due tuesday and i using the internet is a pain. sometimes i go long stretches without craziness but today has been awful.
