mine has a spring that doesnt' really pull hard until you're about 3/4 of the way shut.
but, on the back side of the ironing board, it has a little plastic strap that is a handle, so you don't smash your fingers

basically what you have to do is lift and balance the ironing board so that there isn't any tension that will make it shut on you. if the way that it's propped against the floor is causing tension on it, it's gonna slam shut the minute you toggle the lever.
there's a few different styles of levers, depending on how old the ironing board is and what quality it is, but that should do it for most of them.
i love ironing, btw. :gsmile:

Our ironing board does this too. Piece of . Now I just put a piece of hardwood on the table, place a towel over it and voila. It works.

why iron? shirts for work? buy those wrinkle-free ones. or dry them immediately. wrinkles disappear. i havent ironed all year and still look dashing.

I'm going away tomorrow - or later today actually - and all my clothes are creased. I'm not gonna have access to an iron while I'm there so need to do it all before I go.
Otherwise I'll look like a knob in creased clothes as opposed to just looking like a knob.
