Cancun Hotel Recommendations (pg. 3)

I went to Cancun with my bf last summer in the beginning of August, which was awesome since the busy season had slowed down quite a bit.
We stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condesa, which was nice. They had two pools with a pool side bar, which was very important to me. They had two restaurants one was fancy and the other was more casual. The food was not as authentic as I would have liked it but Cancun does cater to tourists. If you ask for recommendations from the employees they will probably give you the names of places that they get paid to sponsor. But the hotel was really very pretty. But seriously all the hotels are basically the same. Find the one with that will give you the best deals.
Keryn was right, buses travel all along the hotels so traveling by bus to get downtown is not a problem. Only cost like 14 pesos.
One thing I would recommend is whichever hotel you stay at, try and find out if there is any construction going on in the neighboring areas. Also, if you plan on touring Chichen Itza, bring a snack for the long bus ride, and ask if there is a swimming excursion along the way. We only ended up staying at this spot for like 45 minutes, but the views were so awesome.

which tour did you use? That place looks amazing. I really want to do chechen itza, but it may be a tough sell for the gf (because of the 3 hr ride) |

Yikes not even sure what the tour was. We went to the concierge desk in the lobby of the hotel and they were taking reservations for the trip. Cost about $60 per person.
Yea honestly I went only because I figured since I'm in Mexico this is something that I should see. But it was really grossly humid and the bus ride was really long and the walking tour was long and by the bus ride back we were freakin exhausted. So be prepared to spend the whole day there. And we weren't even able to walk up the ruins since some woman fell to her death a few months back. So in retrospect I wouldn't have gone if I could have known that ahead of time. Walking up the ruins was the one thing I was looking forward to. |

yeah, if i can't walk up the pyramid then i dont even want to go. Not worth 6 total hours of bus riding to just look at the damn thing.
Plus i here tulum is closer to cancun, and its pretty cool because its right on the water. And xcaret and cozumel are on the way there. We'll i guess i'll just see what happens when i get to mexico. |

hurricane season doesn't really start until the end of august / beginning of september, plus i always buy travel insurance for the tropics anyway
haha....im sure she will, nothing gets her hot like a fat little mexican waitress wearing skimpy shorts. |
just wondering when the hurricaine season ends? i'm planning a trip there at the end of summer or fall so i don't want to travel there when the storms are picking up. |

| My advice. Cancel your Cancun plans... go to Cozumel instead. You can keep the same flights - just take a cab to Playa del Carmen and take the ferry over to Cozumel. It's cheaper (6 days in really nice hotel in Cozumel << 2 days in a "really nice" hotel in Cancun), there's better diving/snorkeling, and you'll actually get to see some local culture (unlike Cancun). If you really want to get away from the spring break bulls**t don't to Cancun. |

The hurricane season is most active at the end of august and september. But you can always buy travel protection for around 50-100 dollars. Well worth the investment. |
