Hee hee.. seen in one of the Crasher threads discussing how PvD's mixing has apparantly deteriorated over the years.

"talking of ups - Oakenfold on Brighton Beach Radio1 2000 was shocking - he was mixing Bullet in the Gun 2000 in an it was badly out of time - my mates and I looked in horror as we saw him (God at the time after his homelands 2000 set) pushing the record forward frantically and looking like your typical bedroom DJ. Since then - I've always noticed that his mixing is not the best - but he's still capable of playing a massive set despite not being the best technically."

Can you imagine? :D:D

I personally love Oaks, but this sight must have been disgusting :D

Who cares if a dj missmatches a beat, they are all human beings, not computers...
as long as the entire set is great, thats where it is all about.

Im not gonna hate a night out if a dj missmatches a beat....

I'd have to agree w/ TranceSeeker in that a mismatched beat would not ruin my set, but I think that is because I have never dj'ed in my life, and when I am at a set, I am much more in tune with how well the dj responds to a crowd's energy, and his/her track selection, in which department dj's like PvD own. This is why if I was @ NEC, I would have probably been so happy with the track selection and the vibe that the mixing wouldn't have really made a difference. I think once you start to heavily get into spinning, the way you hear sets must be insanely different.

To be honest, i'd much rather stay innocent and blissful, and not pay attention to minor -ups to the likes of PVD @ events as massive as NEC, and just enjoy the whole environment, trainwrecks gallore or not.

Exactly. Of course because they are professionals, we should hold them to a higher standard than the average small club resident, but at the same time we shouldn't expect them to somehow be superhuman. For example, would you freak out if Barry Bonds struck out? I certainly hope not because he's human. However, we should expect him to perform more than the typical role player.
But then again that's just me

Dave

Man, I'm attracting flame!

Don't worry guys I'm with you on this one; I just found it amusingly funny that Gods like Oakie himself are still lovably human.. I do that "frantically pushing records forward" routine consistently in my mixes when I trainwreck (which I do a lot) so it's good to know that even Oakie s up sometimes.. it's heartwarming in a way. :)

Kids that are used to listening to digital PC mixed sets odnt like real DJ's. They don't have any idea what Djing is about
I think it's fun if a Dj makes a error in a set or something...

u originally said pvd's mixing...then you changed to oakey...which one was it?? ive heard of oakey wreckin a few times, but never heard pvd wreck too noticeably...i think it adds more flavor to a live mix when a top dj wrecks once or twice...just makes me think that its not impossible to reach such an unheard of goal as becomin a professional dj

am i right or am i right? :D:D

You are absolutely right :D:D

The Crasher thread went a little out of way; there were initially talking about PvD and then this guy went on to talk about Oakie. Then the bashing started flooding in. :D

keep in mind that some djs also like to have a good time at partys, so they have a few drinks & . after a few drinks i doubt your mixing is as good, i know mine aint...:D

i heard mark wesley drunk live on the radio, he played riva - stringer and started making whip sounds over the top lol :toothless

later

It wasn't like PvD did it just the once, it was like every other track for well over an hour, and it annoyed the hell out of me, like that isn't supposed to happen :whip:
dj_mdma
heh, at least u were there! In real life, the beats will always be a little bit out of time, but u will not notice at the event, cos its well loud, but if its played over the radio adn stuff, its easier tomeake out the mistakes cso the loudness is filtered sorta?

Heh, trainwrecking a mix is so regular when i try and fail to mix breaks!
