Building a desk [UPDATED]

could anybody recommend the best fixings, ie: screws/nails (i know, it's not a very good question, nor a very easy one to answer but i'm confused)

for all of the surfaces i will be using 18mm MDF, ie: top, base, sides, shelves.

a not very proportional example of how i am going to make it look is below. was going to sink the mixer etc but could prove a little difficult for me to do lol

cheers

ps: i just noticed i have typed printer on the lower shelf, which will actually be used for my keyboard so ignore that (will just be a sliding shelf, as will be the mouse shelf

anybody?

think i'm going to just use 3.9mm x 40mm wood screws with 8mm x 30mm dowels

+1, just check in the DJ desks/tables section..

lol...just kidding.

I think he might be looking for something custom that gives him exact space he needs.

100% hit the nail on the head.

basically i bought a desk not long ago - looked great at first, but lacks space for any chances of expanding on my current setup lol

if i make it myself i will make it bigger than my current setup, with shelves specifically for wot i need, ie: vinyl and cd storage, enough room to add a 4th TT somewhere in the future and sad but true, the satisfaction i built it myself.

my gf already has doubts but i plan to quosh those disbeliefs very much so!

here's my question:

unless you are sinking the cd decks and mixer, if they sit on top of that surface, how will you reach your cds?

this is a good point and 1 my gf brought up too! she basically suggested that i use that space beneath the upper shelf so i could slide my decks beneath it when they aren't in use so they arent on show to anybody looking in through the window and also so it would make the room look a little tidier than if they were to sit out all the time *takes a breath* lol

then the question comes, "where will the cd's go" - there's a space to the right hand side on the main surface that has nothing there which will be big enough for a cd wallet. so i will just buy a 400 cd capacity wallet and there we go, smiley face again hehe

:D

are you using MSpaint for this? also the 2nd one looks a lot better and seems more like its more available for you to access things.

just sketched it in photoshop.

yea, i think the previous design in it's built form would look kind of old, where as this one should look more modern.

i have got someone who will be able to cut all the wood for me to size so that's half the battle.
