Ok so I have a mixing question...

Disclaimer: This is QUITE specific!

I have a new mix on the way, I was just doing a little programming run to make sure the tracks work together as well as I thought they would, and one transition that sort of goes from Tech house to this sort of WHAT THE tribal tune (trust me the tracks work well together and it adds just the right amount of shock value im after, anyway...)...

My question is, After the first 32 bars I have been keeping the tribal tune on REALLY low volume, like I'd say about 1/3 of the way up when it hits that important 32nd bar of the transition, most of the time of course we, as DJs, would be either switching our basslines here dramatically or really allowing the new track to take over.

I AM DOING THIS, but, at that exact moment the "Vocals" come in, which are basically just this woman hitting a rather high, and long note (about 16 bars long), and what I've gone and done is I've looped a 1 bar loop of my outgoing track, just a kick and the percs-line, while having this 16 bar monstrosity of a vocal "note"/"scream" gradually raise in volume up until the 64th bar.

My question is, am I doing something taboo? To me it sounds good, and I know that's what matters in the end, if it SOUNDS good, it isnt WRONG.

BUT

I wanted to know what you guys think, I mean, I suppose you'll all be able to hear it when I post the mix, but is what I'm doing sensible? I find it's building a LOT of tension in the transition which to me, is cool, but maybe I've just gone off my rocker.

Sorry, I suppose being able to hear the two tunes would give you the best idea but some of you veterans out there might be wise to what I'm talking about, if so, please post somethin' yo!

Peace!

From what I've read it sounds bad ass actually, but I'll just have to give it a listen for when you post the mix.

sounds like you're deejaying.

good job

this is exactly the sort of thing that when improvised makes people take their clothes off in a club

If it sounds good then go with it, or give us a sample if you don't trust yourself.

I'm not sure what you're worried about. If it sounds good and does something unconventional (although this is not too far out there) then that's what makes a good DJ.

Be sure to post a clip. :)

I'll bust one out in a few mins, thanks for the replies mateys.

you're not doing anything wrong.. as long as the transition is clean/smoooth its perfect, just make sure that you exit smoothly too!

Ok,

Went ahead and did a little sample of what I was talking about, had to do it sortta on low volume, lateish here and although im super hardcore underground (aka, my mom's basement, literally) I had to keep it down.

Anywho, here it be, tell me what you think:

I've been playing a lot of tech house stuff, so it isn't the most BANGING music, but I think there's good tension/emotion in this transition, I hope.

feedbackzzz

Peace!

PS:

The beginning of the first tune sounds weird and broken up because of the envelopes I stuck on it, it's sort of something i do every now and then to bring elements of an incoming track in more slowly to the outgoing tune, just ignore it, your speakers aren't dying hehe.

it sounds perfect to me..
