Securing your studio

Undertaking a project to make sure all my gear is secure in the house. I'm upgrading the home security (obvious first measure) with motion detectors, glass braaks, and the works. I plan to do a couple other things, too and was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for keeping gear safe. I read that engraving gear is a good idea and a quite some time ago read that there were tracking devices for really expensive gear - like LoJack or something? Don't want to go overboard, but willing to spend whatever it takes to keep it where it belongs... any other suggestions or recommendations?

Uhhhhh buy insurance? I mean, if someone wants to rob you. They're going to rob you no matter how intense your home security system is.

Just make sure you back up your projects frequently, and get insurance to cover all of your gear.

If you're really paranoid you can get removeable hard disks and store backup copies of your work offsite.

i have insurance on all of my gear(and if anyone needs a quote in the U.S. msg me... my guy was AWESOME)... you can get renters insurance if you rent or upgrade your home owners insurance if you own.

it only cost me like $200 a year for about 30k worth of wardrobe & gear.

Yah - have homeowners insurance, took out more when I bought some additional stuff... and new gear is better than nothing, but after spending months (or more) customizing computers, sounds, gear, programs, and collecting hundreds of gigs of audio, I place more value on keeping what I have than getting new stuff.

The new security may be enough. Probably not a bad idea to backup stuff offsite though... yes, I'm paranoid. Maybe too much, but can't hurt to invest heavily in security.

get tints so nobody can look inside the studio

Better yet. Just don't have windows in your studio. And have the only access to the room be a big sturdy storm door with a dead bolt.

There you go. No worries.

i have "loli", my brother's attack hamster. she moved in after "crazy horse" the beta of doom passed away.

trust me, w/loli on the loose... you won't even know what killed you, and your family if tried to enter my place w/proper security clearance.

the white rabbit from monte python's "holy grail" was based on loli. they called my brother to get loli to train/prepare the actors, and to help choreograph that sequence.
