just heard on CNN as I walked by...

they were doing an ad for paris hilton's first interview out of prison, and the background music was Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes. kinda weird for cnn to play a tune like that, but whatever.

-then last night there was a jeep commercial with the lyrics from PVD-Time Of Our Lives.

-kinda cool to hear this stuff on mainstream american tv

Depends what angle you look at it from... If someone knows the song is old, they may immediately associate the product/service you are trying to sell in the commercial as being old/not hip/etc. To those who don't know how old/new it is (the general public when it comes to EDM) then it probably doesn't matter all that much.

Generally speaking, I wouldn't expect movies/commercials/etc to have the newest songs in them with respects to EDM. ;)
