Starting out CD DJing

Hello all, I'm new here so try and give me a warm welcome ;P. Anyway here's what I need some help with.
I'm looking into taking the plunge and buying some equipment. I don't have a huge budget so don't want to start with vinyl. I'd like to eventually move into it, but I figure later on TT's might compliment my CD Decks. I've been looking into the Pioneer CDJ-100S.
Any comments?
Besides that, I am looking to try and do alot of small parties (Sweet 16s, Graduation Parties Etc.) to try and make some money back on the equipment I bought. Besides the Pioneers I don't know what I need. Can anyone help me out? My budget isn't huge, but its not tiny either. I'm realistic and know it's a big investment. If anyone could get back to me on what you think that would be great. Thanks in advance. |

| Your going to need headphones, a mixer, and of course, working speakers. Headphone wise, well, ask gluegun on that one, he knows best. Numark and Vestax make excellent budget mixers. Pick one up and you should be set! |

Well if I was gonna do CD decks this is the route I would go...
DECKS: Pioneer CDJ100's - $299 each at www.123dj.com
MIXER: Vestax PCV-275 - $389 at www.123dj.com
HEADPHONES: Sennheiser HD280 (Amazing Headphones!!) - $84 www.hificoncepts.com
If the Vestax PCV-275 is a little to much in price for ya chech out the lower end PCV-175. Also www.hoolywooddj.com will beat 123dj's prices by $25 on each of these items, only thing is I hear they aren't the most reliable company. I ordered my mixer from them though.

u said that u dont have huge budget, ok...
why dont u buy only 1 TT and a cheap mixer. So u can start mixing with your PC and TT. In time, when u have more money, u buy second TT, and some more vinyls etc...
btw. cd decks aren't cheap either... |

| I've got a pair of cdj100's and a djm-600 and I must say that they are a great buy. The mixer is very expensive (around $1200 or so USD) but it's also one of the best mixers, IMO. I'd also suggest starting out on a cheaper mixer anyway, and that way you will not only appreciate the better mixers, but if you get stuck with a crappy mixer live, you can still deal with it. |

i'm actually in the same boat here...i currently use VTT and an external mixer to do my mixes, but i'd like to move to CD decks in the summer when i get some $$....i was looking at one of the gemini decks, or the numark axis series..
any info on those?
i don;t wanna drop too much on CD decks...otherwise i'd just get vinyl..and i don;t have the $$ to start buying vinyls... |

NEVER BUY NUMARK OR GEMINI CD PLAYERS, NEVER.
The main reason is bad pitch precision, after a while, the quick start can have a 1 second delay (something you really don't want) and also crappy system by itself.
If you want to keep your cd players of a while and get the best out of them, get Denon or Pioneer, the rest is ... i know, i tried around 6 Numarks and 4 gemin.. damn, stay away form them...
Headphones; you don't need the top of the line stuff, if it's for small parties, almost anything will do the job (as long as you're skilled enogh). |

The instant start doesn't ever get slower.. that is so unlikely.. even after a few yrs..
my friend has had Gemini CD players for 2+ years now and they still start at the same speed as he got them new (0.015 sec).. they also last that long with no stuffups, etc.
probably the same deal with Numark
I dont know why you like to make bull up, cos u obviously haven't tried any of them in your life.. so just shut up if you dont know what your are talking about..
Anyway, get the CDJ-100's because they have the best value and resale value.
And also you will need good quality headphones.. cos small parties DO get loud and you will need heaps of noise cancelling when you are cueing up (unless you wanna go deaf). The cheapest top-quality headphones out there are the Sony MDR-V6 as you might have already figured.. they sell for around US$70-$80. But if you can't find them there are the Sony MDR7506's which are exactly the same and maybe a bit more expensive. |

| I don't know about the decks, (I have only had a brief play with some of the Pioneer CDJ's) but I can say from Glueguns recommendation that I bought the Sennheiser HD280 Pro headfones and they are awesome! I've been around all my m8s houses who mix, and none of there headfones compare to my senns, i've heard a lot of good things about the V6's tho. |

yeah.. the HD-280 Pro's are the best out there if you can pay the extra US$10-30 over the V6's...
definately recommended~!:D |
