"There's something happening on the Upper East Side. I can't tell you how big it is yet," said Bob Magee, a spokesman for Consolidated Edison.
The 4, 5, 6, E and Z lines are affected in Manhattan and the D is affected in the Bronx. A portion of the A and C are also out, from Harlem to the Bronx.
The MTA reported a power "dip" since 3:40 p.m. and hasn't released other details. A dip could mean a power loss from a second to longer, a spokeswoman said.
As a precaution, to avoid collisions, trains on those lines were halted. It is unclear how many trains are still stopped and how many people are affected.
Residents said traffic lights were out for 20 blocks on Lexington Avenue between the 60s and the 80s.
Con Edison couldn't say how many customers had lost power. The city was in the second day of temperatures well over 90 degrees.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was evacuated around 4 p.m. and visitors sitting on the outside steps in the sweltering heat. The streetlights up and down Fifth Avenue were dark. |

As they were giving the "BREAKING NEWS" on TV the power came back on.
"We have a breaking news with details from the NY upper Manhattan power outage blablablablabla....OH we just got word that the power was just restored"

i live in New York and I saw this thread before hearing about the outtage from anywhere else ... so that's a point. But the power is back now so i guess it doesn't matter really. Still, why are you ridiculing this thread for pointlessness when there are easily over 10 other threads on the 1st page of the cor that have even less purpose than this? |
