I love hip hop beats....but you're absolutely right, I hate the lyrics. Commercial or non commercial, i don't care if you're a baller, if you have girls, what you're driving, etc....

To be fair, i also don't dig for the underground stuff, but to me it's not worth it.

I have to say as much as i dont like Kanye West because of the fact that he is cocky, i still think some of his tracks are pretty good. But yeh i listen to real hip hop music too, there are still some out there, honestly i cant stand the music thats being played on today's radio's, although there are tons of hip hop artists who don't talk about pimps, hoes',grills in the underground world.... MC's like KRS One, Jern Eye, EL-P, Immortal Technique, Mr. Lif, Akir, etc

here are some clips:

Immortal Technique

Jern Eye

Sway & King Tech
PvDoBseSSioN
well daft punk has to make money somehow

even though i hate the idea and couldn't believe it when i saw it
biznology
prolly sampling the new Maroon 5 song, which i feel rips off DP in some way. but maybe not|

not the MTV one, one on the album...

I've understood that since I first got into EDM. Just making a thread.

Yeah, but the general direction in ALL artists has gone commercial... I used to dig in the crates and listen to like Black-Eyed Peas for example when they were nobodies, it was AWESOME! Then look where their sound went, and they're not the only ones... every artist I ever liked or viewed as a diamond in the rough always takes a HUGE turn for the worst... That's why for years I don't bother digging in the crates for hip hop cos 's all the same.. And the few underground tunes I do hear are just more gangster stories about guns and violence, something I think only very few (Ghostface and Raekwon) can actually capture my attention with..

I don't know. Maybe it's because my first love is hip-hop. I always have artists who aren't commercial.

Cyne

Slum Village

In-Q

Supastition

And then there are some commercial rappers, like Lil Wayne, who come very correct on their non-radio songs.

you can't hate on any artist for going commercial. Making music is their jobs and they should make as much money as they can. No one would expect you to turn down a promotion if it was offered to you.

Well we can hate on people going commercial and we do it all the time haha... PVD letting his song play in a Motorola commercial isn't really the commercialism I'm talking about... PVD having a singer with a cat Doll is the commercialism I'm talking about and I'm sure the high majority of TAs are gunna give him flack for it... Just like when I think about artists I used to like in hip hop turn totally 180 degress into making nonsense club-rap songs that SELL....

"shake that laffy taffy, what? that laffy taffy... shake that laffy taffy..."

That's one out of dozens of songs that give me the right to hate on hip hop as we know it today hahaha... not to mention Black-Eyed Peas... I guess whoever said the hip hop being bad on the radio like dance music being bad on the radio is right, and I've just lost interest in it? So he's probably right about that.

my only point is that if someone is going to criticize an artist for chasing money that person should think about their own situation. You wouldn't turn down a raise, would you???? If you're talking about ty content, well, that's a totally different story.
