same filter system thing as the custom ones but has that rubber thing instead of one molded for ear canal. only $35. i have some and use when @ loud clubs, makes everything sound normal at reasonable level, but i find them a little annoying for dj use. would probably need to get the filters that are about -15db for dj rather than those one that are -20 or something like that. |

yeah a mate uses those with his band at gigs, plays guitar and does vocals... maybe ill get some of those! >.< |

Hey just out of curiosity guys, in regards to headphone volume whilst playing out, ASSUMING your using a pio mixer, and have monitors facing you directly with say a meter or two distanced away... at what level do you have the dial cranked up to on the mixer... at home i have a 600, and i would probably have it (Headphone vol) cranked say 1/3 of the way and the level of loudness i would say, for the person on the decks, is about as loud as a club... the music can be heard from across the street as well, just to indicate how loud the environment is... now, i compare this to my friend, who when we do vr's sets at my place, probably cranks up the headphone vol to like 1/2 way no worries... sometimes i forget and when i jump on the decks i get blasted with the headphones :eek: ...
what level would you guys put the headphone volume to ? |

Different headphones will have different volumes at different levels...
you should set the knob as low as possible. helps if you have a pair of headphones like sennheiser hd280s because they block out more sound than almost any other headphone. hd25s and most other popular dj headphones don't block out enough imo (circumaural > supraaural). |

Nah, -15dB is not enough.
As I said, if you're wearing a -25dB pair, you can talk to someone on the phone or in a quiet room of your house perfectly normally. They don't block the sound nearly as dramatically as you'd think.
I've DJed using them several times and they were fine. |

I've got fitted ear plugs with a set of 15db filters and 25db filters.
The 15 are much more enjoyable for music. I find the 15s still take the edge off of the loudness, but leave the bass frequencies much less touched compared to the 25s.
I assume for clubbing you would want 25s at the stupidly loud places, but hopefully if you're performing, you can have your monitors at a level where 15s are fine. |

Fair point; I did mention that the 25's seem to block the bass ever so slightly more than other frequencies, though I'm still not sure if this is reality or just my perception...
That said, I'm a terrible beat matcher and my plugs have never made me worse. |

yeah thats exactly what im getting at :) i would rather have the levels reduced somewhat whilst playing to help prevent damage, than have nothing to protect my ears (like current!). in some monitoring situations, simply turning down the headphones or booth isnt enough.
