USB Turntables - any good??

I'm probably gonna get abused horribly by the purists but who cares :D
Ok so I get 99% of my music on CD, paid download or iPools. But theres some stuff I can only get on vinyl. Although vinyl is pretty cool to own, its big, bulky and pops and clicks too much for my liking. Plus I don't have turntables, and probaboly never will as I wouldn't use them enough and will never have enough vinyl to warrant getting them.
That said, I want a simply way to get vinyls onto the computer, and my dad also has a substantial collection of 1950s - 1970s vinyls that he wants on the computer and copied to CD. So I found one of these -

There are a few models out there, thats just one.
Anyone had any experience with this? Are they good or ? Recommended or are there terrible problems with them?
Thanks folks :) |

hmm that sounds like a good idea.
I hate to burn cds all the time and tag them all.
Donnu if it works though.

Edit:
Sorry I thought this is for djing until I saw the link. :p |

| usb turntables are basically turntables with build-in sound cards. they are probably easier for recording vinyls into the computer, since the "regular" way would be tt->phono pre amp->audio interface->PC. sound quality might be ok, even for 100 bucks, but don't expect a mind blowing experience... :) |

I'd go for that one myself, it's a brand name i recognise for one :p
I'm considering doing similar since I'm in need of transfering about 100 vinyl, some in bad condition into .wav and backing them all up so I don't lose the music totally |

| Hmm yeah the Numark one looks better. Gonna have to think about it a bit... got a handful of vinyl behind me with no way to play it :( |

they may be alright for recording vinyl to computer, but they're also both belt drive turntables
you might be better off getting a direct drive turntable and a preamp |

| ripping vinyl always works best with direct drive + a million to that. |

Not really, when it comes to plain ripping it doesn't really matter whether it's belt or direct drive. DJ'ing is a completely different thing though. |

| Yeah I'm not too worried about direct/belt drive. Im not gonna be playing with the pitch bender anyway, this is just for a straight rip to HDD. |

| dont belt drives have more a problem with keeping a constant speed? |

think so, too... my first pair of TTs was belt driven and they were not constant at all, when the needle was at the end of the track, it ran about 2% faster than at the beginning... that was soo annoying, mixing was hell, and recording (for sure) too... :(
now i have direct drive TTs and they're close to perfect |

i have had problems with keeping the integrity of the pitch with belt drive tt so its just a personal viewpoint. |
