I'm ready to do some room treatment to the studio. Awhile back a friend that does mastering recommended clouding the ceilings so I think that's what I'm going to start with. One question though, what I planned on doing is lining the "arch" part of the ceiling with 4-5 panels each with peg board and 2" (found from http://www.hp-h.com/p/hapicmpur/clouds.htm) - is this enough, and does the top of the ceiling - between the arches - need treatment too? I guess that's two questions... any other suggestions? Here's an old pic, the image below are actual dimensions to scale. Thanks!

I think in this circumstance, you would be best off putting your best absorption on the angled walls, because they will be bouncing back a lot of frequencies a normal square room wouldn't. Other than that, the same basic rules apply - basstrap corners, absorption rear wall, either side of listening position and behind speakers.
PS. your krks are horrendously off axis. |

Yah, the pic makes it look worse than they were, but they were off. Took the pic right after I reorganized the whole room (previously I was facing one of the angled walls... now that was horrendous). It's better now.
Any ideas on how to hang the panels from the angled wall? I was thinking some sturdy hooks (four per panel) ought to do the trick. Does it matter how close to the wall the panel is? Or is it better to leave a little bit of room between the panel and the wall?
Thx. |

| it is always best to have an air gap. if you make your panels light enough you can use 3m command hooks to hang them like a picture without damaging the wall. :) |

| Cool - thanks. I'll post pics when I'm done in the next couple days. |

| maybe hang some curtains to shorten the room a bit? your roof angles will mean curtains will need to be angled but having a sectioner made from heavy curtains will make the space a lot more acoustically friendly. |

| I've got over a dozen panels made now. They're all 4' by 15". I'm going to make a few different sizes for the actual walls and the rear of the room. I know there is software (thx for the link) but it's really difficult to set my room up because of the angles... I may not need to use all the panels, but for the angled wall specifically, any guesstimate as to how far each panel should be from the next? I'm thinking 15" apart ought to do it... because of the size of the room it'd be like 10 panels on the angled wall, but whatever works... appreciative of any thoughts. Thx. |
