Visited the Taj last year. The precision involved in making that structure was/is amazing. Definitely want to see Peru's Machu Picchu and the Great Wall.

I read that first one as Gaza strip and thought uh wtf? :wtf: :stongue:

and if Tiesto played at petra well ... bad for that place cause I'm sure it destroyed a lot of the soul the place had

No, the Old 7 Wonders are all destroyed, except the Pyramids of Egypt.

Exactly...why did they decide that the pyramids in Giza were no longer a wonder?

They probably thought about "The Wonders of the Modern World" as being different from "The Wonders of the Ancient World".

Even then, there's something weird... it should cover just Wonders built from - maybe 1700 AD onwards.

I was under the impression that Egypt refused to participate out of principle (and rightly they should have). Eh, when I was in Egypt I considered the Pyramids of Giza to be overrated. I much preferred the pyramids of Dashur and Saqqara considering their historical significance. that, Abu Simbel should have made the list hands down. Or maybe some of the tombs/temples around luxor.

There are some really gorgeous as well as siginificant things out there, granted, most of them are all just remnants of what they were, like many of the landmarks throughout Egypt and Greece.

After careful consideration, the New7Wonders Foundation designates the Pyramids of Giza—the only remaining of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World—as an Honorary New7Wonders Candidate.

Therefore, you cannot vote for the Pyramids of Giza as part of the New7Wonders campaign.

This decision has also taken into account the views of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt and the Egyptian Ministry of Culture. The Pyramids are a shared world culture and heritage site and deserve their special status as the only Honorary Candidate of the New7Wonders of the World campaign.
