on a related note, which is a greater evil:
blindly hating everything that's popular, or blindly following something because it is popular, or because it was previously good? |
There is an option missing here-Clearly following something that was original when it first hit the scene and continuing to follow it because it's still great, regardless of popularity. |

| I didn't say either of them applied to anyone. it's a hypothetical. |

| but you didn't answer the question. It wasn't 'which is better?' It was 'which is worse?' Thus, mentioning something that is clearly superior to either is irrelevant unless the intent was to refute a point which I was not making. |

| The Canadian's got a point. I love Canada by the way, i really had a great time in Victoria, BC. Beautiful place and great music, it seems to be one of those odd places were the raving spirit still exists, even in Montreal the underground scene is always forward thinking. The MUTEK festival hands down brings the cream of the crop, hey um you might know something about the movie they were filming a couple of years ago about the MUTEK festival. It was a collaboration of artists from Canada and Germany, I recall hearing that it was supposed to be a documentary with interviews from Richie, Luciano, Robag Whrume and others I can't remember. |

yeah, Texas doesn't have a very updated scene. I think it's gonna change tho, when I first got here it was more about Trance than what i can see today. It's become a bit more varied, although we do not get decent performers every weekend, there are still people planning to bring artists like Superpitcher and Ryan Elliot. The problem is mainly that the laws in Texas and most of the U.S are too strict to abide to 24 hr clubs, only rich clubs such as Pacha (NYC) and Space (Miami) would have the ability, network and financial power to turn the law on their side.
In Texas, it's either the lack of a true underground movement or tolerance towards the genre which limits its growth, thus a lack of musical diversity. |

Fixed.
These guys put on a great show. DJ Dan was amazing at the last Meltdown and Donald Glaude had the crowd jumping at the LL.
My .02 - There are many genres of music and within each of these genres, you will find the good, the bad, and the cheesy. Never the less, no matter the genre, if the music makes you feel good, happy or empowered, then it's good music. Like wine, music will not appeal to every one the same. There is no need to fight over which is better because it doesnt matter when it comes to music and wine.
So, drink up and dance!
Tap out or pass out,

ok boys...here's the situation, my parent went away on a weeks vacation.....
im a troll and an internet savage, but I think Dirk can attest i'm a pretty stand up guy when not frothing at the mouth...here are my observations on what I have seen about Dallas and its scene.(i actually met djjonas without realizing at obar and had a brief convo with his wife when he was getting his cd's...i came...good job jonnas:p)
1.Liquor sales oriented...ie: Dj gets no freedom. People don't dance at all, something i really wasn;t used to.That would be very hard on me if i played a party as that is my number one gage to see if the music is working or not.
2.A few very nice venues with a LOT of potential, just not the market for it...YET.
3.Making edm flourish(in Dallas at least...i didnt see the rest of the state.) will require promoters willing to take a bit of a loss and trying to educate the people a bit. The house Dj's i saw would not cut it here, but i know a few TXTA bedroom guys that play some current hot and honnestly get out there...if you market it right and package it properly to still draw the "be seen" people..profits and musical integrity are not impossible.)
I can understand the worship for these so called "top" Dj's, because its really all you guys get. The one thing i felt while there was being truly lucky for what i had back home. You guys can have it too...just takes work, balls, and motivations that go beyong profit. Put the trance stuff aside for a minute in October and go see Lee Burridge in October...it will change you...believe me.Lee is a monster and needs no Dj list to show it. Follow your own paths, not the ones chosen for you.If anyone ever is interested with throwing some events that think outside the box...feel free to pm me as i have a few contacts that could save you a few bucks depending on who you book. I troll to be a dick but really love this music and a flourishing scene in any city is good for everyone even me.
5.Diggerz..i have that documentary although the name escapes me. I can give a copy to Nik if anyone wants one next tim she visits. It really is interesting...and even if you only like trance...watch it. Mutek is a truly special event and i never miss it. It isn't only the shows that are great but the opportunity to participate in production workshops with huge producers that makes it special.
6.Dallas is a beautiful town but i don't get texas bbq..i mean its ok but its no taco bell. The city was nothing like the tv show...and so disapointed i didn't see chuck norris once.
7.[shameless plug]download my mixes as well s the weekly series i will be starting next week...also don't forget to buy my release on Poker Flat which will see its first limited vinyl pressing sometime in September. No Digital available for a few months..we want to keep it special and for the dj's[/shameless plug]
prognosis i'll be back, and if i can help bring something that makes me want to i will...just keep the scary grassy knoll black dude away from me and make sure grits never touch my plate.
call me:gsmile:
be elitist and proud..there is nothing wrong with moving against the pack and marching to the beat of your own drum if its because you love it.;)
i am king elitist and will never change...because it feels that damn good. |
