I use percussion loops a lot, synthloops never. When I use loops, Fruity Slicer + some FX usually do the trick with creating enough variation and uniqueness.

Not cheating. Anyone who thinks so is a fool. There is no such thing as cheating. There are good songs and there are bad songs and that is it.

seems like every harder track i hear these days has the exact same percussion loop as Cab 10/Faceplant by Jowan........or sounds damn close

the problem i always found with using loops even sliced up often times... is they stick out as a loop or from of a loop. just something about the sound of em to me has that quality

Most loops of samplecd's are already compressed. So most of the times they already sound really tight (or flat) without compression/equalizing on the entire track.
I always chop them up and try to equalize them untill they sound good in the mix :)

BTW: Saw you got the Stevie Wonder talkbox on MySpace! Awesome video!!! Still thinking of buying such a talkbox :) |

To loop or not to loop.
Ultimimately the only thing that can decide is the result. If you write a crap track people will say that you are trying to pad out a bad piece of work.
Creating something people like and you will be heralded as a creative genious.
Obviously there are different levels of using loops and samples, i.e. remixing and so on.
If you write a monster with a loop that tears clubs to pieces, most sane people wouldn't pull you up on the fact that you used a loop.
It also depends on the genre to some degree. Old school breaks and Hip Hop are massively loop and sample driven.
It's all in the ear of the beholder.
Cheers

As long as you use it as background. I've heard fruity noob tracks where they just put in one of the default drum loops unfiltered and unedited and that was the entirety of their drum track. :nervous:
