I've thought for years that a progressive form of social medicine is in order. I know it would never happen thanks to the lobbyist. But, since we are paying money to a Social Security system that will be bankrupt before our generation turns 65, it would make since to start channelling those dollars that we pay now towards unified healthcare for the entire country.
My name is Jonas and I approve this message. |

Social Security is a flat-out transfer payment, and a total scam. Policy changes with a potentially great effect on the economy should NEVER...let me repeat...NEVER be about principal, rather than economics. Socializing Healthcare may sound all well & good (sure, who wouldn't love it if nobody ever had to worry about being taken care of when sick or ill? I don't think you could find a single person who wouldn't sign up for that), but the effect it would have on the entire industry (let alone the economy as a whole) would wind up eroding it to the point where the initial change would be rendered useless, as it wouldn't buy you anything anymore anyway. Short-term thinking and ignoring reason will get you a few years of appeasement, and a system with nowhere to go but closer to failure.
Either way, though, we're going to wind up with it two years from now, because a democrat is probably going to win, and Hillary's already been on that bandwagon forever, and O'Bama's as close to being a flat-out socialist as any prominent politician in the US today, so you'll get your wish. Just don't be surprised when the US becomes irrelevant in the world of medicine at some point down the line (possibly in our lifetimes).
edit: also, I went a whole rant without mentioning external locus of control. There. Fixed. |

That is why I said a PROGRESSIVE form of social medicine. I don't agree with the current models, as they do not support mega-populated societies. Canada is a prime example of what can go wrong and what you are talking about. What I would like to see is something that supports the current economic model but can also incorporate government subsidies in health care to ALL that can not afford it on their own. It would be a tiered approach where different classes would qualify for a certain guaranteed amount of coverage with no beauracratic BS stalling the process. You made part of my point by stating that SS is a scam. Those dollars can be put to use today in medical coverage if done correctly, with SS being abandoned immediately |
