when i think of comedy outside the u.s., obviosuly i have little to no experience, i think of a scene from the movie the beach.
while i have been to a comedy show in london, it was a newb american and i was drunk, so i didnt consider it european comedy.
anyway it is the scene where euros play a trick on richard (leo decaprio) by pretending a shark killed the girl in the water.
when they start laughing, richard starts yelling "hahah you europeans are so funny, no wonder your comedy has conquered the world."
and the dude replies in laughter "oh what about ..." and i dont know what the name is.
anyway so ive always wondered these dumb and ignorant questions.

is there comedy in europe ??
is it funny ??
who's famous for it ??
are american comics well-known ??
what kind of shows are there ??
is stand-up popular ??
what are the current comic trends ??
pics/vids to support your elaborations.

on a side note, that movie, the beach, is one of my all time favorites.

...is 1000000000 times funnier than American comedy.

American comedy: bland, predictable, obvious, PC, in-your-face.

European comedy: dark, subtle, quirky, black, surprising.

By the way, I'm talking about movies here, not stand up.

There is a thriving stand-up scene in Europe though, and, again, it's better than American.

there's a lot of funny & unfunny comedians/comediens around europe. the uk has a lot, but a lot aren't that funny and have to be stupid to get a laugh rather than being generally funny. A good standup guy for that is Peter Kay, he's inoffensive yet can have you crying from laughter.

Right now, the funniest comediens/writers are the chasers guys though.

nsfw - the odd swear :p

and of course, when you have Americans, who needs major humour :p

and finally

I find these funnier than most europeans, but when they include ricky gervais, you can't really get much worse ;)

Ricky Gervais is piss poor. I've never really got into his type of comedy at all.

I'd recommend Billy Connolly, and Lee Evan if your looking for a good impersonator.
