Cleaning up the high end

| I always have a hard time cleaning up the high of my songs. I usually try to filter out percussion and leads below 13 khz because I like that "crispiness" to my sound, but in the end there's always too much resonance. How do you guys deal with the high ends? |

| Should you try low passing the highest frequencies off your leads and maybe some percussive elements so there isn't too much going on up there. I always try and balance my percussion with a mixture of high end sounds and more mid sounds so as not to clutter up the high end. I always cut off my leads above approx 14-15khz to leave room for the percussion. |

| usually a lot of presets have very long sustain and release settings to sound fat on its own (and heavy delay, reverb). in the mix it's usually better to have some simpler sounds (sounds who uses less space). so lowering a bit of those settings can help to clean up. |

Agreed. I usually end up thinning down sounds in the final stages of the mixing. |
