thanks to everyone who trooped from armin over to Rebel... the venue is awesome and there are some huge events being planned there.
MDK was very down to earth and a real nice guy. I pulled out on of his own records "Passion" from my bag and his jaw dropped to the floor.. lol he signed it "WOW! Thanks so much for the support! - MDK" lol
Moo, thanks for the kind words. You and khal are class acts, great friends and awesome djs.
zack and keryn def layed it down... i forget who i was talking to but keryn mixed into a track and i remember all of us just stopped talking when the bassline kicked in and we all looked at each other like.. "woah"
Zoo Brazil @ Love this Friday and stay tuned for Rebel announcments |

In 2002-3 Matthew Dekay was one of my favorite producers. Beautiful Monday is still one of my favorite progressive house tracks ever. Am I the only one that thinks he has gone straight downhill since then as a producer?
IMO he never had any talent as a DJ.
Sorry for all the negativity but hey it's Monday morning.

| got to rebel around 1:30 or so - ok venue - very diverse crowd from candy ravers to wannabe hipsters - dekay was ok - nothing mindblowing or new - i think his set was solid just not my cup of tea - good hanging out with barosoap and GHB (really the only reason I went out was to catch up with the two of you) |

| I had the best time on Friday!! Playing at Rebel was sooo refreshing, for one the booth was perfect and the sound was crisp made for a stress-free set. The entire staff was friendly and extremely helpful in accommodating us. We searched the place up and down for an extra fan for Dekay because he was just dragging from the heat. As hot as it was on the floor it was even warmer on the stage with those lights beaming down! I personally thought that Dekay started off slowly but towards the middle to end was really banging it out. He flew in to canada from the netherlands on thurs i believe played a gig there and then came down to nyc on friday. He seemed exhausted and hot and that may have been partly the reason his energy level died down towards the end of the set. |

thanks to the core guys for inviting me to play. i really liked the venue... and had a great team playing there.
i actually enjoyed zack & keryn's set more than dekays... but thats just my preference. to be honest... i enjoyed all the other local dj's sets better than dekays... lol. i hope he doesn't read this forum and think i'm hating. oh well.. also thanks for the kind words about my set guys. glad there were still a good amount of people who stayed out past 3 to listen to it. when i dropped in the new heaven scent remix.. everyone started wilding out! what a reaction... haha. until next time.
next time i gotta remember not to drink and smoke before staying out late... cuz i was seriously about to pass out. otherwise i need some sort caffeine.
also good seeing moo & kahl... u guys played great sets |

i actually left a post on the armin review about the after party due to the lack of a thread and the many other people mentioning it, but ill definitely say it again...
hafta give it up for you guys. all the locals definitley threw down and we all enjoyed you very much. thanks much for making the night fun and entertaining. MDK wasn't bad at all, but the first little while of his set dragged on and it was difficult to go from armin to that. the change in music was pretty drastic, so we blame that for the reason we werent as into it as we should have been. sorry to hear that he had to leave early tho, im sure he was tired, he looked it. |

I was soo tired by the time I got to Rebel, but it was a nice sigh of relief after the mess at McCarren Park.
The locals threw down great sets. I only got to see Zach & Kerryn and the Frequency guys. Both groups of DJ played nice sets. Your track selections were great & keep up the good work!!
MDK is a great producer. I liked some of the tracks he played. I have to admit that the first hour of his set was dragging. It could have been because I was tired from AVB or MDK was tired also. He looked exhausted but his mixing was good. I couldn't ID any of his songs and that is a sign of a great DJ (one who brings out new stuff instead of the same old crap).
Rebel was a nice venue. It was comfortable and the sound system was very good. |

thanks for the positive reviews guys!
I had a blast playing on Friday. Rebel has the potential to become a serious mainstay in the NYC club scene IMO. Its a big venue with a very unique layout. From a dj's standpoint it's a pretty perfect room...just a dark ass rectangular room with a nasty system and great lighting.
I personally really liked Dekay's set a lot...his progression really did it for me. By 2:00 am he was at full throttle and killing it...and with a lot of his own, presumably unreleased tracks. I kept peaking at his laptop for IDs and most of the night but can't remember much :whip:. he was an absolute pleasure to open for.
Thanks again to everyone who came out and made it such a great night. Also props to all the djs who kept things going in the Gallery all night. :toocool: |
