Novation Remote owners?

I've been wanting to purchase a basic synth, such as a K-Station, to get into synth programming a bit more. I can't stand using my mouse for this stuff, so I thought hardware would be the way to go. However, I am now considering buying a Novation Remote SL Zero to use with V-Station as a substitute for a K-Station. I've had a little bit of play time with one at the shop, but not long enough to form a solid oppinion on it.

Existing owners... do you think you could turn your computer screen off and program a sound into V-Station or some other basic synth like that relatively easily? Or is it not intuitive enough and a proper hardware interface still is miles ahead?

Thanks.

Have you considered a Behringer BCR-2000? If so, what are your thoughts? If not, check it out.

I know Behringer isn't the most respected name, but I've heard nothing but great things about it, and it's quite popular among VJs it seems.

Well, this thread has had little action today, so i thought I'd weigh in with my opinion, which is worth a little more than 2c.

The novation remote has to be the greatest controller I've ever laid my eyes and hands on. It is most assuredly the next controller I will buy. I'd get the 60 key one tho, its only a few hundred more. The key action on it is bloody superb, plus you've got the x/y pad ( or do you? not sure...) also being able to detach the spring on the joystick so it doesnt spring back into place is a good idea ( i just dismantled my pcrm50 to acheive the same result)

But u wanna sound design doncha.... So I would buy a synth, something that has lots and lots of knobs and sliders on it. There is definitely something satisfying about being able to pick up your synth, detach it from the computer and take it outside on a sunny day and tweak to ya hearts content. This is something the remote cant do. Yes you can probably turn the monitor off and use the lcd's, but it's still not the same. You wanna synth that u can fall in love with, learn inside out, know it so well u could practicaly program it in the dark.

So I'd hold off on the controller and buy a real synth instead.

However, if you had to go the control surface due to money constraints ( which we all have unfortunately ) then i dont think you could pick a better one.
