Yea, on my holiday the other week I kept shouting this at the locals with my hand ready for some high five loving and kept getting looked at like I had 2 heads. At the end of the week I finally asked someone if what I was saying was correct and they said.... "No!"

Oh, that's because this is a bizarre expression in other languages. I still remember the first time someone said "high five" to me in Portuguese, and waited for me to do it... I was completely puzzled at first, and I instinctively thought I was supposed to clap (?) his hand because he was there, raising his arm, and waiting for me to do something :p |

| First of all me and my friend kept saying 'Aribo (sp?) Cinco' but then we saw a high voltage sign at our hotel with the word 'Alto' so we opted for that instead. What does Aribo mean? I have no idea how it's spelt, but that's how it sounds like when you say it. |

It's spelt "arriba" and its meaning is a bit complicated because although "above" is the direct translation, it's used in many different contexts:
