At least 12 injured now, and one witness on tv was talking about a man running toward them with his skin all burned. :(
man that scene looks scary with the steam and debris coming out like a geyser...man seeing the news broadcast with all those people running like hell away from it, it was horrible.
My mom has a condo apt on Park and 39th i wonder how far debris travelled from the original area...looks like it deposited over a few blocks' radius
well i dont think we are coming into manhattan now. we were initally planning on it.
pray there are no more serious injuries. |

| A 24in. steam pipe installed in 1924 is what burst, due to cold water getting into the pipe. Those that know how pipes work, they expand and condense with temps. |

gah! finally made it home after nearly 3 hours.
wasted a lot of time sitting on the 5 train downtown as the conductor's announcements went from "train delays due to congestion" to "train delays due to police investigation @ grand central" to "train delays due to building collapse."
i gave up and left the train station @ spring street. heading towards 14th & 7th i passed by whatever hospital that is down there and there were quite a few people on stretchers who looked merked the up, debris and all.
i've definitely gotta move soon. the distance between where i live, and where i work/play is annoying in situations like this. :whip: |

Bloomberg or one of his OEM staffers reported:
- 1 person at Bell or Cornell with third degree burns to 90% of body
- 1 person with 60% burn to body..
jesus christ, like how you empathize with people in situations like this? to be running for your life, burned/burnING, screaming in pain.. it's so traumatic.. |
