how will you make your mark on the human race?
something thats been bothering me for some time, how will you leave your mark? spawning a number of little you's? creating something meaningful that future generations can appreciate?
I don't want my time on this planet to be wasted and have a few ideas how I'll leave my mark, how about you?
CoRe version: what the are you going to do with your lives apart from your partners in the ass? |

lol i read this as you being fed up with ta dj sets or something
here's a related reply:
i've almost managed to complete my architecture degree. when that happens I want to get into club/lounge/restaurant design and one dream i have is to build basically an computerized grid of clusters of aromatic jets into the ceiling of a lounge and restaurant which can be operated by an engineer who essentially blends various aromas using essential oils, breezes, and temperatures across a space as a dj plays live music

and once you've done that? is that lifes goals complete?
i can see how you may leave your impression on the world, but is that purely what you want to be remembered for? |

rememberance is a really subjective thing...
we all make a mark on the world whether we want to or not, and regardless of how 'important' it seems, it's all pretty equally worthless in the vastness of eternity
unless you're like a brother of the rosy cross or something
but in answer to your question, no that's just one thing i'd like to do
i'd like to be remembered as a person who did so many different things that it was mind boggling
as much as we like to idolize people for inventions and things like that, the fact is someone else would have done it if they hadn't. it's all one consciousness. we don't ever really invent something by ourselves |

Awesome. You could call the guy who operates it a scent jockey... or SJ :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: |

haha yeah i had a long conversation with a friend about it and what to call it :p
the idea is more or less to have this suspended grid structure. at each intersection node is a bundle of 4 or so aerosolizers/jets. these are like channels on a mixer. the scent jockey would be able to paint the desired dispersion cloud on a device like the jazzmutant lemur, and it would have some sort of timeline feature that can be quantized and beatmatched through fft analysis. Each cloud would be color coded, the transparency level representing the potency of the aroma. Then a simple drag and drop into corresponding color channel banks would allow one to designate each cloud to a source essence, ie specific scent or custom, pre-made blend. One could overlay clouds, move them around in time in vector based trajectories. The computer would interpolate the data and then quantify each scent and route the correct amount and type of essence to the correct nozzle and correct node. The jockey/engineer would also be able to manipulate the dispersion through forced breezes and temperature differentials.
imagine sending a rush of guido through the crowd before a buildup before a deejay drops something like buy now - for sale
yeah, i know this is bizarre, but i think it could almost be a new form of entertainment/media. it interests me a lot because smell, more than any other sense, has the power to penetrate time and space and instantly trigger memories and thoughts deep in one's subconscious. Smell has long been left to the wayside, this thing that is partly responsible for so much that we consider part of normal human existence... love, danger, comfort, hunger, cleanliness, dirtiness, not to mention fantasy.
like i said though, one project out of many i'd like to do
anyways, before i kill the thread... |
