If I remember right ,
In 1998 ,after "System F - Out of the blue" was released there where romours that Ferry stoled the "club trance" sound from Faithless & they wanted to prosecute him for it.Not sure how it ended. But after this track other started to produce tracks in this genre.
In 2001 (I think) when he was bored with the "club trance" sound he started to look for new sounds & released "Punk" or maybe other track ,with the same electro sound in it.Also after this track everybody started to copy that sound & produce tracks.
I know that originally the electro genre & sounds are from 80' , but I think that before Ferry's track nobody used this sound.
So can we say that Ferry was the pioneer of "club trance" genre or reinvented the "electro" genre ? |

| I wouldn't really agree with the "electro" thing - folks like M.I.K.E. had done similar stuff earlier. Ferry just made it more pop. |

Yup, stuff like this:

Though I think the whole "electro trance" tag was laughably bad. |

People stick the word "electro" on all types of stuff however. As soon as someone opens a up the filter on the bass a little it's electro. :stongue: |

Wow, you can prosocute someone for "stealing" your "sound"????
You can't put a patent on music.
M.I.K.E. was doing the "electro" thing and PVD was doing the "club trance" thing well before Ferry did either. There were probably others before this but they're as far back as I know (and I've only been into EDM since early 2002).
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Ferry fan, just get your facts right. |

I think it's cool and all to slam Ferry about anything and everything, but people forget how much of an effect Punk had in 2001 and early 2002, especially before anyone even knew it was Ferry.
Ferry didn't invent epic trance, but for better or worse, he pioneered the over-the-top, in-your-face Dutch mold. Name me some tracks like Pulp Victim - The World or his early Moonman remixes that had similar effect in catpulting the frenetic Continental style. Some material from BBE and Ayla, but that's about it. |
