Breaks is fun to spin for sure.
Trance, while I like listening to it, is quite dull to mix, really. |

| I am torn between Urban and EDM beacuse I live in the bay area of san francisco where the hyphy and electro sub genres are very big, but playing for EDM crowds is more enjoyable beacuse they are often very open minded about the music you can play, I once got away with playing Give It To Me by Timbaland at a rave in frisco and the crowd went nuts, but on the other hand I nearly got into a fight at a house party beacuse someone didnt want me to play Snoop Dogg's Drop It Like It's Hot beacuse Snoop was a crip at one point. |

I like mixing psy-trance because it's easy as piss, all the basslines tend to work well together.
Electro-house is similar in that regard, but I don't enjoy playing it as much. |

I spin whatever I feel like at any given time, but mostly it ends up being Deep House-y, or funky if I'm in an "energetic" mood.
I like spinning some DnB once in a while, and I've even played some Breaks tracks at my last gig. I don't like pidgeonholing myself to genres when I'm playing. If the song works, then it gets played. |

Oh yeah.
I like spinning uplifting prog, but nothing like deep prog to get me grooving.
Enjoy trying to mix chunkier tech house for challenge, ie layering and stuff. |

i've found my favorite genre to play is 'good music'. it's a really obscure genre not a lot seem to get into these days
:p
seriously.. you're looking at this the wrong way. how can it possibly be fun to try to stick to genres.. who labels them anyways?
i play what seems right at the right time, and i try to do it in a musical and ballsy way and that's fun for me |

seriously.. you need to learn to read. i just asked for a favorite genre, thats all... ok, you dont have a favorite genre ~ then stfu!
seriously.. you're telling me i'm looking at this the wrong way? how do you know how i look at things? are you me?
seriously... me stick to genres? i play out 3x a week to 3 diff crowds (Residencies bitch!) so sticking w/ one genre is not in my vocabluary. i play everything from pop to hardcore and breaks are my favorite - that's that! AND there are thousands of DJ's on this earth who categorize themselves as spinning 1 or a select few genres. since you're a bedroom dj, you probably do have a lot more freedom in selecting your tracks ;)
dont tell me how i'm looking at things or should look at things. go write a book or get a life you troll... |

Still play trance. Love trance, that's why I want to DJ and it's why I want to produce music.
Admittedly good trance (Purely personal opinion) is hard to find these days.
I will cross over to tech trance.
I will also play breaks and chunky techno in warm up sets etc. but to be honest, I have done the breaks thing to death and don't find it any more fun than trance.
With trance it's all about the crowd for me and not the mixing. The mixing is just a by product.
I think after a while you tend more to think of the performance than the genres as such. It's always good if you can mix it up and excite people with combinations of music and I don't always strictly play trance in what is mainly a trance set.
The one genre I find too dull for words is electro house. The problem with that genre in my ears is that it's so entry level production, everybody is doing it and there are only a hand full of people who do it well. In terms of spinning it... Zzzz...
I don't enjoy house crowds generally speaking as a group, often too concerned with being seen with the right people and going to the bathroom to powder their noses than to actually get into anything.
I know it's each to their own and we all have our own take on the subject. But this is how I see it.
Cheers
